Be it known that I, FRANK J. BAKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Cloud, in the county of Stearns and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Magazines for Firearms, of which the following is a specification.

y invention relates to magazines for firearms, and has for its object the provision of a stop at the end of the magazine to prevent the cartridges feeding when it is desired to cease firing and withdraw the loaded or exploded cartridge from the barrel.

My invention is applicable to any magazinefirearm, though its construction would probably have to be altered in some instances. The form generally used is described hereinafter, and. illustrated in the accompanying drawings. in which- Figure 1 is a bottom view of a portion of the magazine of a gun, showing my invention in place; Fig. 2, an end view, partly in section; and Fig. 3, a broken side view of the magazine, partly in section.

In the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.

A represents the magazine-tube of a firearm of any selected type, the one illustrated being of the type in which the magazine extends under the barrel and forward of the breech, though it is apparent that other types of magazines may be substituted without departing from the spirit of my invention,th ough it might be necessary to alter the'construction of the hereinafter described attachments slightlyto accommodate them to the various forms of magazines.

In the form of magazine shown in the accompanying drawings my attachment would consist of the following parts, viz., a piece of spring-steel B, secured to the magazine-tube, having its free end bent at right angles, as shown at C. 1) represents a metal strap, secured to the magazine-tube transversely thereof and over the spring B near its end C, and E a beveled block mounted in a groove on the inner side of said strap D and having a pin F extending through a slot G in the strap, with a button H secured to its outer end. The spring B is formed to normally hold end C from engagement with the contents of magazine-tube A, and when in that position the cartridges are free to flow into the breech as the gun is operated; but should it be desired to cease firing and to withdraw the cartridge or empty shell from the barrel without disturbing the cartridges in the magazine the button H is pushed over, so as to cause block E to depress spring B and the end C to intercept the cartridges in the magazine.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a magazine for firearms, a spring-bar secured at one end near the delivery end of the magazinetube, the free end of said bar bent at a right angle to the balance of the bar, a grooved metal strap secured on the tube transversely thereof and of the spring, a beveled block slidably mounted in said grooved strap and adapted to depress said spring-bar, and means to actuate said block, substantially as shown and described.

2. In a magazine for firearms, a spring-bar secured at one end near the delivery end of the magazine-tube, the free end of said bar bent at a right angle to the balance of the bar, a grooved and slotted metal strap secured on the tube across the spring, a beveled block slidably mounted in the groove in said strap and adapted to depress said spring-bar, a pin secured to said block and extending through the slot in the strap, and a button secured to said pin, substantially as shown and described.
