Description
N0,7s1,488. y PATENTED JAN. al1-,1905. @.BLUMEm CIGAR PERPORATOR. APPLICATION'FILED-SEPTA, 1804. l
A` No. 781,488.
UNITED STATES Patented January 31. 1905.
PATENT OFFICE. Y'
CIGAR-PRFORATOR.
SPECIFICATION-forming part of Letters lsatent No. 781,488, dated January 31, 1905.
l Application filed September 8, 1904. Serial No. 223,680. l
To (t/,Z wiwnt t may 'concern/.1. Be it known that I, OnsPAR BLUMER, a citizen of the Republic of Switzerland, and a resident of Guttenburg, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Cigar-Perforator, of which the following is a full, clear, andlexact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved cigar-perforator more especially designed for penetrating thesideslof the cigar at or near the point thereof to provide draft holes for drawing the smoke through, the arrangement being such that the wrapper is not loosened or unraveled when forming the draft-holes by the instrument.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will beY more fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claims.`
A practical embodiment of the invention is' represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement as applied. Eig. 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the improvement, and Fig. 8 is a plan view of the same.`
The cigar-perforator is preferably made from a single piece of spring metal, bent to form a U-shaped spring A, terminating atits ends in cup-shaped vmembers A 'for' receiving I the pointed end of a cigar B, as plainly illustrated in Fig. 1, the said cup-,shaped members being capable'of yielding for cigars of`v dierent thicknesses. From the sidesof the cup members of the spring are' struck-up spring-arms A2, terminating at their free ends in teeth A3,'standing at angles to the springyarms and approximatelyin a plane extending through the axis of the cup-shaped members A. Normally the teeth A3 are somewhat above the outer faces of the cup-shaped mem- 'bers A, so that the tapering or pointed end of the cigar can be readily placed in position in the cup-shaped members A', as illustrated in Fig. l, and then the operator on pressing on the free ends of the spring-arms A2 causes the teeth or points A3 to penetrate the wrapfree ends with teeth.
per and aY portion of the filler of the cigar to .provide draft-holes therein.
It is understood that as soon' as the operator releases the pressure onthe spring-arms A2 the latter return outwardly to their normal positions, thus disengaging the cigar to permit of removing the perforator from the cigar. The cigar is now pierced with a number of holes on opposite sides, at or near the point thereof, so that the cigar when lighted and used by the smoker is provided with suitable draft-holes for drawing the smoke through.
By the arrangement described the terminal of the. cigar need not be cut off, and conse-v for terminal of the cigar.
' `.Tlie perforator is very simple and durable in construction and can be cheaply manufactured.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A cigar-perforator constructed of a single piece of spring metal, and comprising a U- shaped member provided at the ends thereof with receiving members for the end of a cigar, said member having spring-arms struck up therefrom and provided at their free ends vwith perforating devices. l
2. A cigarperforator comprising a cupshaped receiver formed with openings in its walls, and struck-upY spring-arms integral on the receiver and arranged on opposite sides thereof, the `spring-arms being provided with teeth for penetrating the cigar at the sides thereof.
3. A cigar-perforator made of a single piece ing teeth for penetrating the sides of the cigar, between the ends of the` said receiver.
4. A cigar-perforator comprising a receiver for the end of the cigar and consisting of aA U-shaped spring provided at its ends with receiving members, and spring-arms integral with the said spring and provided at their .lOO
5. Acigar-perforator made oia single piece i from and provided at their free ends with of metal and comprising a U-shaped spring i perforating` devices, the latter normally octerminating at its free ends in cup members, i cupying a position beyond the inner surfaces and spring-arms integral With the said spring l of said receiving members. and provided at their free ends with teeth, for In testimony whereofI have signed my name penetrating the sides of the cigar. to this specification in the presence oi two sub- 6. A cigar-peri`orator constructed of a sinscribing witnesses. gie piece of metal, and comprising a U-shaped member provided at the ends thereofl with receiving members for the end of a cigar, said member having spring-arms struck up there- GASPAR BLUMER.
