IMPROVEMENT IN CIGAR-RPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 236,5id, dated March 4, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. HERRON, of Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and usefulImprovement in Elastic Tip for Cigars; and 1 do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention consists in providing a new article of manufacture, viz., an elastic tip for the end of the cigar, which is placed in the mouth of the smoker, said-tip being provided with four V-shaped valves, formed in its conical point by two cuts made at right angles with each other. said valves opening at each draft on the cigar by the smoker, and closing at each discharge of the smoker.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and, use my invention, I will proceed to describe my new article of manufacture.
In the accompanying drawing, which forms part of my specification, Figure 1 is a side view-of a cigar provided with my improve ment in elastic tip. Fig. 2 is an end view of the elastic tip, and represents the arrangement of the cuts in the end of the tip for forming the valves. Fig. 3 represents the operation of the valves when the draft is made upon the cigar by the smoker.

The luxury of having the end of the cigar dry and the smoke free from moisture, with the absence of nicotine, is a pleasure that can. only be realized by persons in the habit of smoking.
Having thus described my improvement, what I claim is 'A new article or" manufacture-the elastic tip provided with the V-shaped valves 0, (I, e, and f, as herein described, and for the purpose set forth.
