To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, BENNO voM Ere EN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark,

in the county of Essex and State of New Jer sey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Handle Attachments or Fasteners for Bag-Frames; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and

to figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

My present invention has reference toimprovements in handle attachments or holders for use with bag-frames and for the attachment of the end portions of a handle or chain to the frame; and the invention has for its,

principal object to provide a novel handle attachment or holder for use with the hinged or pivoted frame-sections of chatelaine or side bags, such as are carried by women upon the side of a garment and are usually suspendedv .by means of a chain and hook from a belt.

, The principal object of this invention is to provide a simple, cheap, and neat construction of handle attachment or fastener for chatelaine or belt bags to be used with the inclosing frame-sections, the said attachment or fastener comprising a body to be secured upon the side face of the smaller frame-sec-j tion and having a means extending from the side of said body and projecting above and over the upper and outer face of the larger frame-section when'closed, that the ends of a handle or chain when attached to said means will be centrally located directly over said outer frame-section, that the bag-frame will hang vertically straight and still not offer a hindrance to the separation or outer movement set forth; and, furthermore,rthis invention consists in the novel arrangements and com- 1 binations of. the various parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be hereinafter more fully specified andthen finally embodied in the clauses of the claim which are appended to and form an essential part of the said specification.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 a top View, of one form of chatelaine-bag frame provided with a handle attachment or chainholder made according to the principles of my present invention, and Fig. 3 is a vertical cross-section of the said bag-frame and a side view of the attachment or fastener. Figs. 4

and 5 are a side and top view, respectively, of,

a different form of bag-frame and a slightly- .modified construction of attachment or fastener, and Fig. 6 is, a cross-section of this chatelaine or belt bag frame, which may be of any suitable marginal configuration, either of a round or semicircular shape, as represented in Figs. 1 and 2, or the same may be of the squared or rectangular shape, as shown in Figs. 1 and 5 of the drawings. These frames comprise the frame- sections 2 and 3, which are pivoted or hinged at their lower ends a and are of the usual 'l:shaped crosssection, the frame-section 3 being a trifle of rivets or pins 7 or in any other suitable manner. Extending in an upward direction from the said body or plate 6 is a projection or arm portion 8, preferably slightly curved orbent, as shown, so as to follow the general configuration of the upper surfaces of the frame- sections 2 and 3 when closed, and being formed with a right-angled member or plate 9, which extends some distance above the upper and outer face of the smaller framesection 3 in a direction toward the larger frame-section 2, and at such a distance above and over the said frame-section 3 that the frame-section 2 will pass directly beneath this right-angled member or plate 9 when the two frame-sections are in their closed relation, as

clearly indicated in said Figs. 3 and 6 of the drawings.

Each right-angled member or plate9 is provided with fastening means upon its upper face, located centrally above the upper and outer surface of the larger frame-section 2, when in its closed position, for the attachment thereto of the handle ends or the ends of a chain to the fastening means, that the bagframe will be supported in its verticallystraight position from the handle or chain. In Figs. 1 to 33, inclusive, I have shown the said right-angled member or plate 9 provided with one form of such fastening means, the same consisting of a perforated eye or loop 10, which may be suitably secured upon the upper face of the member or plate 9, preferably by means of a rivet post or lug, as will be clearly understood. Each perforated eye or loop 10 carries a ring 11, with which may be connected in any usual manner the end piece of a handle or the end of a chain. In Figs. f, 5, and 6 I have provided the said right-angled member or plate 9, in lieu of the rivet-post and perforated eye or loop 10, with an eye 12, formed by a curled-over end portion integrally united with the said rightangled plate or member 9, in which may be arranged a ring 11 for the attachment thereto of the end piece of a handle or the end of a chain.

From the foregoing description of my invention it will be seen that I have devised a simple, neat, and novel handle attachment or chain-fastener for bag-frames, and especially for chatelaine and belt bags, the fasteners being secured to the smaller frame-section of the bag-frame, but provided with fastening or attaching means extending over the upper face of the larger frame-section, that the bag will hang vertically straight, and all without interfering with the usual outward movement of the larger frame-section, away from the body of the wearer when it is desired to open the bag.

Of course I am aware that some changes may be made in the general arrangements and combinations of the parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, without departing from the scope of my present invention. Hence I do not limit my invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the parts as described in the foregoing specification and as illustrated in the ac companying drawings, nor do I confine myself to the exact details of the construction 0 1 the said parts.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. A fastening attachment for the hinged sections of a bag-frame, one of said framese'ctions being smaller than the other, so as to close over each other, said attachment being adapted to be secured to the outer side face of the smaller frame-section, and having an attaching or holding means extending in adirection above the upper edge of the smaller frame-section and directly over the upper face of the larger frame-section, that said larger frame-section is movable beneath the said holding means,substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

2. A fastening attachment for the hinged sections of a bag-frame, one of said framesections being smaller than the other, so as to close over each other, said attachment being adapted to be secured to the outer side face of the smaller frame-section, and having an attaching or holding means extending in a direction above the upper edge of the smaller frame-section and directly over the upper face of the larger frame-section, that said larger frame-section is movable beneath the said holding means, said holding means eonsisting,of a plate extending at a right angle from said attachment, and having an eye in which is arranged a ring, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

3. A fastening attachment for the hinged sections of a bag-frame, one of said framesections being smaller than the other, so as to close over each other, saidattaclnnent being adapted to be secured to the outer side face of the smaller framesection, and having an attaching or holding means extending in adireetion above the upper edge of the smaller frame-section and directly above the upper face of the larger frame-section, that said larger frame-section is movable beneath the said holding means, said holding means consisting of a plate extending at a right angle from said attachment, a rivet-post secured to said plate, said rivet-post being provided with an eye, and a ring in said eye, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

4. A fastening attachment for the hinged sect-ions of a bagframe, one of said framesections being smaller than the other, so as to close over each other, said attachment comprising a main body, means for securing said body to the outer side face of the smaller frame-section, an upwardly-projeeting extension on said body, and an attaching or holding means extending in a direction directly over the upper face of the larger frame-section, that said larger frame-seotion is movable beneath the said holding means, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

5. A fastening attachment for the hinged sections of a bag-frame, one of said framesections being smaller than the other, so as to close over each other, said attachment comprising a main body, means for securing said body to the outer side face of the smaller frame-section, an upwardly-projecting extension on said body, and an attaching or holding means extending in a direction directly over the upper face of the larger frame-section, that said larger frame-section is movable beneath the said holding means, said holding means consisting of a plate extending at a right angle from said upwardly-projecting extension on said body, and having an eye in Which is arranged a ring, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

6. A fastening attachment for the hinged sections of a bag-frame, one of said framesections being smaller than the other, so as to close over each other, said attachment comprising a main body, means for securing said body to the outer side face :of the smaller frame-section, an upwardly-projecting extension on said body, and an attaching or holding means extending ina direction directly over the upper face-of the larger frame-section, that said larger frame-section is movable beneath the said holding means, said hold- BENNO VOM EIGEN.
