PATENT EETcE.
ELI H. MILLER AND WILLIAM O. MANGHAM, OF CREEDMOOR, TEXAS.
NECK-YOKE ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 774,360, dated November 8, 1904.
Application filed August 16, 1904-1. Serial No. 220,928. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that we, ELI H. MILLER and WILLIAM O. MANGHAM, citizens of the United States, residing at Creedmoor, in the county of Travis and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Neck-Yoke Attachment, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improved attachments to the neck-yokes associated with harness, and has for its object to improve the construction and increase the efficiency and durability of such devices and likewise reduce the wear and friction on the harness.
With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a plan view of one end of a neck-yoke with the improved device applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section.
The improved de\'*ice comprises a member or frame, represented as a whole at 10 and having a shank or sleeve extended from one end and divided longitudinally into two sections 11 12 to receive the ends of the neckyoke, (represented at 13,) to which it is secured by one or more transverse rivets 14. Spaced from the portion of the member 10 from which the sleeve 11 12 extends is a head 15, connected to the other portion of the member 10 by spaced ribs 16 17, which serve as guards to the neck-yoke strap 18, as hereinafter more fully described. Inserted through the head portion 15 is a bolt 19, with its threaded end extended into the end of the neck-yoke 13. The
bolt serves as a journal for a roller 20, which is thus mounted rotatively between the guardribs 16 17. The hame-strap 18 passes around this roller and between the ribs 16 17 as shown. By this simple means averyefiicient, durable, and convenient attachment is produced by means of which the strap 18 is relieved almost entirely from abrasion and wearing friction, while at the same time supporting and materiall y strengthening the neck-yoke.
The device can be readily attached to any size or form of neck-yoke without weakening the latter, as the sleeve 11 12 fits over the end of the neck-yoke without reducingthe size of the same. There is very little, if any, wear to the parts, and the only part which is liable to break or wear is the bolt 19, which may be replaced at a very small cost.
The device is entirely of metal and may be of malleable iron or steel of any required strength and may be of any ornamental design and plated, japanned, or otherwise coated. or ornamented to correspond with other metal portions of the vehicles or harness and may be formed highly ornamental, if desired.
The device will outwear the wooden neckyoke and can then be easily transferred to a new one, and thus perpetuate its life indefinitely.
Having thus describedthe invention, what is claimed is- 1. The device herein described comprising a member having means for attachment to a neck-yoke and provided with spaced guardribs, and a roller mounted for rotation between said guard-ribs.
2. The device herein described comprising amember having a sleeve for receiving a neckyoke and attachable thereto and provided with spaced guard-ribs, and a roller mounted for rotation between said guard-ribs.
3. The device herein described comprising a member having a divided sleeve for receiving a neck-yoke and compressible thereon by a rivet passing through the two parts of the sleeve and the neck-yoke held between the same and provided with spaced guard-ribs, and a roller mounted for rotation between the guard-ribs.
L. The device herein described comprising a member having means for attachment to a I our own We have hereto affixed our signature-S neck-yoke and provided Wlth spaced guard- 1n the presence of two Witnesses. ribs, a bolt extending through said member ELI H. MILLER longltudlnallyand entering said neck-yoke by i t its threaded end, and a roller mounted for ro- WlLLIAM MANUHAM' tation upon said bolt and between said guard- \Vitnesses: ribs. H. H. Voss,
In testimony that We claim the foregoing as G. L. HUGHES.
