TREE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Pa NO- 772,905, dated October 18, 1904.
Application filed February 23, 1904. Serial No. 194,837. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, BENJAMIN W. PoLLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newton Center, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tree-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. I
This invention relates to holders for Christmas trees, poles, staflsand other similar objects; and it consists in the novel construction and comhinationof the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed. y
In the'drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of the holder. Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the holder.
A is a base consisting of two pieces of wood secured together in the form of a cross.
13 is a socket or guide secured to the middle portion of the said base.
'0 represents four arms. *The outer ends of these arms are pivoted to the base by brackets D and pins d, and their inner ends extend over the top of the guide and clamp the trunk E of the tree or other similar object which is placed between them.
F is a cup which is slidable in the guide and which receives the end of the tree-trunk or other object.
Gr represents wires or other similar connections which are secured to the cup F and pivoted to the inner end portions of the arms C.
-The weight of the tree presses the cup downward in its guide and forces the inner ends of the arms against the tree-trunk.
What I claim is 1., The combination, with a base, andaguide secured thereto; of a cup slidable vertically in the said guide, clamping-arms having their outer ends pivoted to the said base and their ,inner. ends extending over the said guide, and connections between the inner end portions of the said arms and the said cup.
2. The combination, with a cross-shaped base, and a guide secured to the middlepart of the base; of a cup slidable in the said guide,
four clamping-arms having their outer ends pivoted to the said base and their inner ends extending over the said guide, and wires secured to the-said cup and pivoted to the inner end portions of the said arms.
