Description

@pleiten tetw @anni @fge GEORGE W. BELL AND GEORGE W. FULMER, OF HINCKLEY, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 76,881, dated-April 21, 1868.
tre .rlgshule raamt tu in 111m trims ndert amt mating gmt nf tigt seme,
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONGERN Be it known that we, GEORGE W. BELL-and GEORGE W. FULMnn, of Hinckley, in the' county of Medina., and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Poke for Horses, Cattle, dto.; and we do hereby declare that the followingA is a full and complete description 'of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a lpart of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side vieri.
Figure 2 is a top view.
Figure 3 is an end View.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts.
In the views, A represents the yoke, secured to the poke B, in the following manner: O, iig. 2, is an adjustable slide, that surrounds the poke B, and is held to the same by means ofthe thumbfscrew a. The ends ofthe yoke A are pivoted to shafts extending out from said slide, and secured by screws a, as shown.
Secured on the end ofthe poke B is the head D. Over this head is hung, on the pins b, the'plate E.
This plate is also supported by the spring F.
I are spikes or points, secured in the edge of the plate E, and extending down through holes c, in the head, the purpose of which will be referred to hereafter.` I
This p'oke is placed on the horse, the yoke over its neck, with the head D nest to its breast. I
As the horse goes near a fence, the end of the poke will strike against said fence, and thus throw the head D up against the yoke A, which causes the plate to be pressed down on to the head D, and thus push the points through the h oles in said head into the breast of the animal. As soon as the end of the poke is removed from the fence, the spring F will force said plate up in position again.
G Gare springs, which may be used in place of the spring F, which are secured to a pin in the poke, and' the end connected to the plate E.
By means of this adjustable slide, the poke can be adapted to a large or small animal. For smaller ones, the yoke is moved nearer tothe head D.
.Wha-t we claim as our improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe adjustable slide C, in combination with the yoke A, pokeB, and head D, in 'the'manner as and for the purpose set forth.
GEORGE W. BELL,
GEORGE W. FULMEB.. Witnesses:
W. Bussines, J. HOLMES.
