TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: g

Be it known that I, DAVID D. BAKER, of West Alexandria; in Preble county in the State of Ohio, have "invented a. certain new and useful Improvement in Churns; and do hereby declare that the following isa full and. exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theletters of reference marked thereon.

Figure I represents my improved churn, with a portion of the box broken away to exhibit the dasher.

Figure II represents the bottom of the dasher.

My invention relates to the construction of the dasher; and its leading feature consists in the application of a square canopy above the wings and vanes, as hereinafter described.

The box or churn-body is of rectangular form, as indicated by the letter A, in the drawings, and the dasher is of corresponding form.. The wings, 1 2 3 4, are connected with the handle-rod B, which extends up through the cover of the churn, as represented in Fig; I, and its "upper end is provided witha hole, which connects it with lever O, by which the operation of churning is performed. The perforated vanes, a 5 0d, are secured between the outer endsof the wings 1 2 3 4. These vanes are arranged at an inclination of about forty-five degrees to a horizontal line, their upper edges being directly below the outer edges of the canopy D, which is connected with the four win s 1 2 3 4. An 0 en s ace is formed between the cane D and the vanes also a p p 7 between the vanes and the wings, as represented in the drawings.

The lever C being connected by a pivot-bolt to the upper .endof the handle-rod B, and the former being supported upon the upright, which serves as its fulcrum, the vertical movement of the lever C will give to the dasher a reciprocating vertical movement.

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the action of the dasher upon the contents of the churn will be to force the cream upwards through the open spaces of the dasher, and against the under surface of the canopy D, which will, by the downward movement of the dasher, force the mass of cream ontwardly'aboveand through the holes in thevancs a b e (Z; and the upward movement of the dasher will cause the contents of the churn to reverse its motions, and thus the desired action on the cream is effected with the greatest rapidity.

Having fully described my improvement, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination of wings 1-2 3 4, and vanes a b e (Z, with the canopy D, rod 33, and lever O, the parts being constructed, arranged, and operating oonjointly, in the manner and for the purpose specified;

BAKER, of West Alexandria, in Preble county in the State of Ohio, have I "invented a. certain new and useful Improvement in Ohurns; and do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and -to the letters of reference marked thereon.

My invention relates to the construction of the dasher; and its leading feature consists in the application of a square canopy abovethe wings and vanes, as hereinafter described. i

The box or churn-body is of rectangular form, as indicated by the letter A, in the drawings, and the dasher is of corresponding form..-' The wings, I 2 3 4, are connected with the handle-rod B, which extends up through the cover of the chem, as represented in Fig, I, and its upper end is provided witha hole, which connects it with lever C, by which the operation of churning is performed. The perforated vanes, a 6 0d, are secured between the outer ends'of the wings 1 2 3 4. These vanes are arranged at an inclination of about forty-five degrees to a horizontal line, their upper edges being directly below the outer edges of the canopy D, which is connected with the four wings, 1 2 34. An open space'is formedhetween the canopy D and tho vanes, also between the vanes and the wings, as represented in the drawings.

The lever C being connected by a pivot-bolt to the upper .end of thehandle-rod B, and the former being supported upon the upright, which serves as itsfulcrum, the vertical movement of the lever C will give to the dashcr a reciprocating vertical movement. 7

From the foregoing description it will be seen that the action of the dasher upon the contents of the churn will be to force the cream upwards through the open spaces of the dasher, and against the under surface of the canopy D, which will, by the downward movement of the dasher, force the mass of cream outwardly 'aboveand through the holes in thelvanes a Z: e (Z; and the upward movement of the d'asher will cause the contents of the churn to reverse its motions, and thus the desired action on the cream is effected with the greatest rapidity.

Having fully described my improvement, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of wings 1-2 3 4, and vanes a b 0 (Z, with the canopy D, rod 13, and lever C, the parts being constructed, arranged, and operating conjointly, in the manner and for the purpose specified. V
