SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 764,914, dated July 12, 1904. Application filed April 9, 1904. Serial No. 202,428. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANToN CHRISTENSEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Car-Steps or Footboards, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to car-steps or footboards, and more particularly such as are provided for open street-cars and are foldable at the sides thereof.
The objectof the invention is to provide a construction whereby the folding of the step on one side of the car will let down the one on the opposite side, and vice versa.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a car-frame provided with steps or foot-boards constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 5 denotes the car-frame, and 6 the floor thereof. The steps or foot-boards are shown at 7, being hinged, as at 8, to the lower end of the carframe and extend along both sides thereof. Each step has secured to the under side thereof an arm 9, which extends inwardly beyond and below the axis of the hinges 8. A connecting-rod 10 extends between the arms, be-
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is-
The, combination with a car-frame, of steps hinged on opposite sides thereof, arms projecting from the steps, and a rod pivotally connected to the outer ends of the arms, the pivots being below and beyond the axis of the step-hinges at all positions of the steps.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANTON CHRISTENSEN.
