To all whom, it 11i/(ty concern:
Be it known that we, WALTER MOGEE, residing at Laighpark, Paisley, Renfrewshire, and ANDREW DONALD, residing at 395 Eglinton street, Glasgow, Scotland, subjects of the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britainand Ireland, have invented certain new` and useful Improvements in Looms for Weaving Wire-Cloth, of which the following is a specification. Y
-This invention, which relates to looms for Weaving wire-cloth, has for its object to simplify and improve the construction and operation of such looms, and more especially to provide improved means for operating the lathe so that a double knocking 0r beating lip of the wire weft is mechanically obtained, akin to that practiced in hand-loom weaving of wirecloth, while maintaining a high speed of the loom and greatly increasing the production.
The invention is illustrated -inrthe accompanying drawing, the figure of which is an end elevation of the framework of a loom, showing the improvements attached thereto. For the purpose of knocking up the wire weft while the warp-shed is open, so that the weft may the more readily assume the sinuous form due to interweaving with the warp led from the warp-beam K and again beating it up to the fell when the shed is closed, the lathe a, pivoted at af, is operated by toggle links or levers I) L and a connecting rod or link c on a single-throw crank CZ. The toggle-link o isl jointed to the lathe and the link b' to the stationary loom-frame e, while the connectingrod c is jointed to the meeting ends of both links o in such wise that when the togglei links are in line, and preferablyin horizontal position, the lathenis at the end of its stroke of beating up the wire to the fell, but when the links o 5"' are out of line under or over the center the lathe c is drawn back. When the toggle-links o b are at their lowest point'under the center line through, the joints, the lathe a is fully back, as shown in dotted linesat A, and the weft-shot is thrown either by shuttle or by threading-needles, the crank Z being at the lowest point of its throw, and as the crank Z turns and through the connectthe. iirst knocking or beating up of into line the wire occurs. In a loom for weaving wire-cloth, in combination with a lathe a pivoted at a to the loom-frame e, a pair of toggle-links b, the toggle-link b being jointed-at one end to the flathe, and the toggle-link o being jointed at one endto the loom-frame e, a connecting-rod c to which is jointed the other ends where 'these meet, of said toggle-links b, 7J the connection being such that when the toggle-links are in line in horizontal position the lathe is at the end of its stroke of beating the wire up to the fell, but when the toggle-links are out of line under or over the center the lathe is drawn back, a single-throw crank d to which said connecting-rod c is connected, the toggle-levers being brought into line twice for each rotation of the crank, a Crank-shaft names to this speeiiieation in the presence of f to which said crank Z is secured, the motiontwo subscribing witnesses.
