SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 761,202, dated May 31, 1904.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LBALDY AsHBoURNnCArE- HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at VVas'hington, in the Districtof Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Fly Paper or Traps, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in fly paper or traps, and has for its primary object the provision of a device which may be stored or shipped in the least possible space and which may be readily formed by the user into such shape as will protect the sticking or poisonous substance on the inner face thereof from contact with extraneous objects should thedevice be upset orbrushed against.

With the foregoing object in view-a convenient embodiment of the invention embraces a sheet of material, carrying a sticky or poisonous substance on one face thereof, the
same being adapted to be folded into a holloW formation with a plain or decorated exterior, and means associated therewith for supporting the same when in use.
The novel details in the construction and arrangement of the several parts of the device will be apparent from the detailed descripti on hereinafter when read in connection'with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, and wherein said embodiment is illustrated.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the treated side of a sheet or blank as it appears when marketed and priorjto folding. Fig. 2 is aperspective view of the sheet in its folded condition and as it appears when inusei Fig. 3 is a top plan view of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a cross-section on the line at 4: of Fig. 2.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts in the several views, A designates a sheet or blank cut'to any desired shape to fold into the predetermined 'hollow formation, the shape shown herein being substantially a sector whereby the blank w%gn e inner surface of the blank just referred to is coated with a sticky substance a, designed to entrap flies or other insects alighting thereon or coming in contact therewith. This :sub'-' stance is so arrangedthat the same will be' wholly confined within the device when folded, so that should the device tip over or be touched by extraneous objects the many objectionable characteristics of 'the ordinary sticky fly-paper sheets are obviated. To properly secure the meeting edges of the blank when folded, any means found most practical or expedient may be employed. In the present instance I provide one edge of the blank with a series of tongues or projections B, ar-
ranged to pass through slots 6 in the opposite edge of the blank'and bent down thereupon, as best seen in Fig. 2. The tongues may be coated with Inucilage or other adhesive material, whereby the same may be stuck to the exposed surface of the blank to more firmly secure themeeting' edges against separation, as is obvious. I tie the extreme upper edges of the sheet together through the medium of of a wire Cycarried by the upper edge of the blank, the projecting ends of the wire being twisted together, as at c.
While any convenient means may be utilized for the purpose of supporting the device, it is preferable that some such means accom' pany and form a part'of the blank when sold, and to this end I have devised a very efficient and simple device, comprisinga wire D, fastened to one edge of the blank and dependingtherefrom, the depending portion being bent into a circular or other shaped base E. While the device is being stored or marketed, the base E lies fiat and in the "plane. of the blank or sheet, as shown in Fig. 1,'-and when the device is in use said base is bent at right angles to the vertical'axis thereof,-as shown in Fig.1 2. yAsupporting-base of this character that" ijnethat may be bent from one position? lnto another'is highly advantageoifs ih'asmuch as it enables the blank'to be dispe tfsedin the' 'same manner that the ordi-' nary sticky fly-paper is sold, with the coated or treated surfaces of two' sheets turned inwardly and opposing each other.
Although, as heretofore stated, the blank herein disclosed is coated with sticky material, I do not desire to be limited to its particular use, as in some instances a poisonous material supported upon the insideof the device will probably suffice, the nature of the entrapping or poisoning substance depending upon the purpose for which the device is employed. I
It is to be understood that slight changes and alterations in the device above defined may be made without in the least departing from the spirit of the invention;
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. A blank of the character described having a sticky coating on its inner face and means at its upper edge for securing the same in folded condition closed at its lower end.
2. A blank of the character described a sticky coating on its inner face wired at its upper edge whereby the same is retained in folded condition.
3. A wired blank of the character described a sticky coating on its inner face adapted to fold into a hollow formation, the wiring being arranged to retain the blank in folded condition. 4. A single blank of the character described provided with a sticky coating on its inner face and also having projections adapted to be interlocked to retain the same in folded condition closed at its lower end.
.5. A blank of the character described provided with a sticky coating on its inner face and adapted to be folded into a hollow formation having an open top and closed bottom, and also having projections adapted to be twisted together to retain the same in folded condition closed at itslower end.
6. A single blank of the character described and having its inner face directly coated and adapted to be folded into a hollow formation closed at its lower end, the overlapping edges of the blank being devoid of the coating substance. 1
7 A single blank of the character, described and having its inner face directly coated and adapted to be folded into a hollow formation closed 'at its lower end, the overlapping edges of the blank being devoid of the coating substance, and instrumentalities associated with said overlapping edges for securing the same against separation.
8. A single blank of the character described and having its inner face directly coated and adapted to be folded into a hollow formation closed at its lower end, the overlapping edges of the blank being devoid of the coating substance, and tongue-and-groove connecting instrumentalities associated with said overlapping edges for securing the same against separation.
9. In a device of the character described, a blank folded into a hollow formation, and means associated with the overlapping edges thereof for securing the same against separation, in combination with auxiliary retaining means at the upper edge of the blank.
10. In a device of the character described, a coated blank folded into a hollow formation closed at its lower end, and means integral with the overlapping edges of the blank for securingthe same against separation.
11. In a device of the character described, a coated blank folded into a hollow formation inclosed at its bottom, and tongue-and-groove connecting instrumentalities formed with the overlapping edges of the blank for securing the same against separation. I I
12. In a device of thecharacter described, a coated blank folded into a hollow formation inclosed at its bottom, and 'means carried by the overlapping edges of the blank for securing the same against separation.
13. A blank of the character described adapted to be folded into a hollow formation, and a support therefor carried thereby.
.14. 1 A blank of the character described adapted to be folded into a hollow formation, and a wire support therefor carried thereby.
. 15. A blank of the character described adapted to be folded into ahollow formation, and a support therefor carried thereby, said support normally lying flat with the blank and adapted to be turned at right angles to its normal position when the blank is folded.
16. A blank of the character described adapted to be folded into a hollow formation, and a wire support therefor carried thereby, said support normally lying flatwith the blank and adapted to be bent at right angles to its normal position when the blank is folded.
17. A device of the character described comprising a blank folded into a hollow formation closed at' its bottom, and a wire support engaging the lower end thereof. I
18. A device of the character described comprising a blank folded into a hollow formation closed at its bottom, and a support having a projecting portion fastened to the lower end thereof. v
