SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 761,156,.dated. May 31, 1904.

To all whom, it mat concern;
Be it known that I, EDWARD FEGERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedarfalls, inthe county of Blackhawk and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Scaffold-Bracket Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for detachably supporting brackets from walls and similar structures, more particularly the brackets employed by builders for supporting scaffolding, and has for its object to provide a simplyconstructed and easily-applied device for attachment to the bracket whereby the same may be detachably connected to the building or other supporting structure.
With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation, it being understood that the invention is not necessarily limited thereto, as various changes in the shape, proportions, and general assemblage of the parts may be resorted to without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages, and the right is therefore reserved of making all the changes and modifications which fairly fall within the scope of the invention and the claims made therefor.
In the drawings thus employed, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a scaffold-bracket with the improved hanger applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective View of the hanger detached. Fig. 3 is a View of the blank from which the clip portion of the device is constructed. Fig. 4: is a view similar to Fig. 2, showing a modified form of the device.
The improved device consists of a substantially Ushaped member 10, having the-terminals 11 12 bent upwardly and with a clipplate 13 disposed within the U-shaped member and provided with bearings 14 15 for conmeeting to the same, the bearings being preferably formed by producing spaced clefts in the sides of the plate and bending the tongues thus released around the member 10, the plate being thus preferably rotative on the same.
The plates 13 are preferably bent at right angles and provided with bolt-holes whereby to .attach them to the inner corners of the brackets 16, as by bolts 17.
To attach the brackets thus equipped to the building, holes are bored in the sheathing 18 corresponding in distance apart to the space between the hook-like ends 11 12 and adapted to receive the same, the brackets, with the improved device attached, being tilted upward to cause the hook-like ends to enter the perforations, and then when lowered into position they will be firmly supported, as will be obvious. By this arrangement the'strains are borne almost entirely by the bent ends 11 12 and the relatively broad surface of the plate 13 and not by the bolts 17 or bearings 14 15, except to a limited extent. The device is thus very strong, durable, and safe and. can be constructed to withstand very severe strains without material increase in weight or expense. The parts 10 and 13 will preferably be of steel of sufiicient strength to resist the strains to which they will be subjected.
In Fig. 4 a modified form of the plate 13 is shown, consisting in forming it without the central bend, as in the other forms shown, which form may be employed under some circumstances,if preferred; but this slight change would not constitute a departure from the principle of the invention, as the same results would be produced in substantially the same manner as with the bent form of plate.
The devices may be of any required size and adapted to fit any size or form of bracket and manufactured and sold at a comparatively small cost.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. As anew article, a bracket-support consisting of a substantially U-shaped member having terminal-engaging portions adapted for detachable engagement with a supporting structure, and a clip adapted for attachment to the bracket and having tongues folded around a portion of the U-shaped member.
2. As a new article, a bracket-support consisting of a substantially U-shaped member having upturned terminals for detachable engagement with the supporting structure, and a clip constructed of a single piece having means for attachment to a bracket and with spaced clefts forming tongues for bending into bearings for connection with said U-shaped member.
3. As a new article, a bracket-support consisting of a substantially U-shaped member having upturned terminals for detachable engagement with the supporting structure, and a clip connected upon said U-shaped member and with its sides disposed at right angles and provided with means for attachment to a bracket.
4:. As a new article, a bracket-support consisting of a substantially U-shaped member having upturned terminals for detachable engagement with the supporting structure, and
a clip formed of a plate bent at. right angles and having means for attachment to a bracket and disposed within the U-shaped member and bearing against the same.
5. As a new article, abracket-support consisting of a substantially U-shaped member having upturned terminals for detachable engagement with the supporting structure, and a clip having means for attachment to a bracket and provided with spaced clefts forming tongues for bending into bearings for connection with said U-shaped member.
6. As a new article, a bracket-support comprising a substantiallyU-shaped member having angularly-bent terminals adapted for detachable engagement with a supporting structure, and a sheet-metal clipfor attachment to the bracket and having integral tongues for engagement with the U-shaped member.
