PATENT OFFICE.
PHARMACEUTICAL DISPENSING-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 760,278, dated May 17, 1904.
Application filed September 14, 1903. Serial No. 173,084. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ELISI-IA J. THURMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fen ton, St. Louis county, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pharmaceutical Dispensing-Cases, of which the following is a specification containing a full clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates to an improved pharmaceutical dispensing-case, and has for its object to provide a combined cabinet for drugs, instruments, and card-index files, and a table adapted for use in dispensing drugs, the whole being suitable for use by physiciansdispensing drugs.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device of my invention, showing the table in place for use. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical mid-sectional view of the same. Fig. 4 is a transverse horizontal section of the base of the cabinet.
As shown in the drawings, a revoluble cabinet 1 is pivotally mounted upon a base 2, which is provided at its sides with rectangular tubes 3, which are adapted to receive the ends of the horizontal members 4 of the rack 5. The rack 5 consists of the horizontal members 4, the transverse members 6, and vertical members 7 and is of the form shown in perspective in Fig. land in section in Fig. 3. The table 8 is hinged to the tops of the vertical members 7, and the braces 9 are hinged to the inner sides of the vertical members 7 and are adapted to engage with and support the lower side of the table 8, which may be provided with depending lugs 10 to engage the upper ends of the braces 9.
The revoluble cabinet is preferably provided with shelves 11 for drugs, drawers 12 fordrugs or instruments, and card-index drawers 13, which are adapted to be used both for the keeping of accounts and preserving the clin ical history of cases treated. The base 2 is provided with drawers 14, which are hinged to the base 2, as shown in the drawings. The tubes 3- are provided with set-screws 15,
folded into compact space when not in use.
This I have accomplished by the peculiar structural arrangement which I have heretofore described and whose mode of operation is as follows: The rack5 is readily extensible by reason of the sliding connection of the members 4 and tubes 3. The table8 when not in use is suspended vertically from the tops of the members 7, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 3, and the rack 5 is thrust inwardly, so as to bring the table 8 snugly to the side of the cabinet 1. In this position the members 4 are locked by means of the set screws 15, and the cabinet 1 is consequently prevented from revolving, so that the whole structure may be moved close to the wall of a room without danger of the wall being injured by the accidental revolution of the cabinet, causing the sharp corners thereof to come in contact With the wall.
When it is desired to revolve the cabinet 1, the set-screws 15 are loosened to permit the outward extension of the rack 5, which is moved outwardly to a sufiicient distance to permit the cabinet 1 to revolve to the desired position with its adjacent wall parallel to the inner edge of the table 8. The set-screws 15 are then tightened to lock the members 4 in position, and the table 8 is lifted into horizontal position and fastened in that position by means of the braces 9, the inner edge of the table 8 being in contact with the adjacent side of the cabinet, and thus locking the cabinet and the table in position.
When it is desired to use the table 8 for purposes of bookkeeping or the like, the cabinet 1 is revolved so that the card index drawers 13 are conveniently accessible to one seated at the table 8, when the rack 5 and table 8 are placed and locked in position as before.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to have secured to me by the grant of Letters Patent, is
1. The pharmaceutical dispensing-case, consisting of a revoluble cabinet, a base whereon the cabinet is m0unted, a sliding rack horizontally mounted in the base, and a table hinged to the rack, substantially as described.
2. The pharmaceutical dispensing-case, consisting of a revoluble cabinet, a base whereon the cabinet is mounted, a sliding rack horizontally mounted in the base, a table hinged to the rack, and braces hinged to the rack and adapted to engage with and support the lower side of the table, substantially as described.
3. The pharmaceutical dispensing-case, consisting of a revoluble cabinet, provided with shelves and drawers, a base whereon the cabinet is mounted, drawers pivotally mounted in the base, a sliding rack horizontally mounted in the base, and a table hinged to the rack, substantially as described.
4. The pharmaceutical dispensing-case, consisting of a revoluble cabinet, a base whereon the cabinet is mounted, a sliding rack horizontally mounted in the base, a table hinged to the rack, and means for locking the rack in position, substantially as described.
5. The pharmaceutical dispensing-case, con sisting of a revoluble cabinet, a base whereon the cabinet is mounted, a.sliding rack horizontally mounted in the base, a table hinged to the rack, the inner edge of the table being adapted to engage with the adjacent side of the cabinet to lock the t'able 'and cabinet in position, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ELISHA J. THURMAN.
