The drawings will sufliciently illustrate the construction of my device.
' The jaws A and B are connected near the centre by a. hinge, C, on each side. The inner surfaces of the jaws are corrugated, forming teeth or ridges across them, by means of which the leather is held more securely,
The nut F is smaller one way than the other, thus proyiding for thick or thin leather. For'thin leather the nut would be placed its longest way between the jaws, and vice versa. The main screw passes through an opening in the lower part of the jaw A, and between the hinges to the nut F, in which it operates. The jaws are opened or closed by the operation of the thumb-screw D upon the lower portion. Forcing them apart will tighten the jaws on the leather or nut. The nut 'F is placed in'the notch II. in the crimping-board, the leather placed between the nut and the jaws, and is made secure by turning the thumb-screw D, thus tighteningthe jaws upon the leather; then, by turning the umin'screw, the leather is easily dawnas closely orer the crimpingboardas can be desired. This screw is very easily adjusted, and holds the leather with great firmness, and with less liability to injury than with those in common use.
What claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The jaws A and B, provided with the screw D, when combined and arranged to operate in conjunction with the screw E and nut F, substantially as described, and-for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my'name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
