` Specification foiming part of Letters Patent No. 75,672, dated March 17, 1863.
To all Loh/077i, it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. EBAUGH, of Hereford, in the oounty'of Baltimore and State of Maryland', have invented an lmand I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exa'ot description thereof, reference beinghad to theaecompanying drawing, making part of this specification, and representing a central vertical section of the can. The body A of the can may be of any oonveuient or. desirable form7 and is made airtight in all parts except where the opening` in the top is made for the' fountain-tube, and a vent, a, for the purpose of letting out the air in filling. This vent-aperture may be very small, and ordinarily closed by a bit of sealing-wax or a plug; or it may be larger and olosen with a screw --oap or a stopper, and used, when required, for filling through. l
The fountain-tube B is made sufficiently broad at the upper end, b, to readily insert and withdraw the brush Without touching it andsmearing its surface with the muoilage. The lower end, o, however, is quite small, substantially as shown, so as to Compress the brush somewhat as it is withdrawn, and there-- by prevent its taking up too much of the-mueilage. It should reach within about half an that the brush C can reach down into and be saturated with the mueilage.
The-handle of the brush may terminate in a knob, d, at the upper end, with an enlargement or cork or stopper, f, tot and close the top of the fountain-tube.
Thus constructed the fountain-tube B does not fill with the muoilage, although the can may be full, and as the brush takes out the mueilage from the bottom a little air is let into the can, so as to let enough muoilage down to fill up to the bottom of the fountaintube.
The advantages of this fountain-can are that the mueilage never dries away nor sours by exposure to the air, nor daubs the outlet with the brush, does not spill when the can is overturned, and is not wasted in use.
What l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A muoilage can or holder with a fountaintube, B, in combination With astoppered brush, constructed and operating substantially as and for the purposes herein specified.
HENRY H. EBAUGH.
