UNITED STATES Patented March 8, 1904.
PATENT OFFICE.
PORTABLE BATH OR SACK FOR WASHING OR BATHING PURPOSES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. '7 54,217, dated March 8, 1904.
Application filed September 17, 1902- Serial NO, 123,700- (N model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLF HERZ, gentleman, a subject of the Emperor of Austria- Hungary, residing at 8 Theobaldgasse, Vienna III, Austria-Hungary, have invented a certain new'and useful Portable Bath or Sack for Washing or Bathing Purposes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention has relation to a portable bathing receptacle or sack; and in such connection it relates to the particular construction and arrangement thereof.
The nature and characteristic features of my present invention will be more fully understood from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part hereof, in which Figure l is a view in perspective of the sack of my invention in a position which it may be caused to assume while pouring the bathing agent or fluid into the same. Figs. 2 and 8 are respectively views of the sack in two different positions during bathing or washing. Fig. A is an elevational view of the sack in one of the positions it maybe caused to assume in emptying through the run-01f or drainage means; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modified form as to the structural arrangement of the sack of my said invention, showing the portion below the middle thereof parted to form independent members corresponding with the limbs of a person, with the base of each stiffened, so as to be adapted to receive and contain the bathing agent or fluid.
Referring to the drawings, a is the watertight sack, composed of a suitable waterproof material, adapted to be placed on a floor or upon the ground and in a position, as illustrated in Fig. 1, adapted to permit of the filling or pouring of a bathing agent or fluid into the same. After the bathing agent or fluid has been supplied to the sack the bather steps into the sack, elevating it over the limbs and body and closing the upper end, either around the neck or contracting by means of a cord 6 or the like the mouth of the upper end around the head. The inclosed person can now bathe or wash and for this purpose stand, as shown in Fig. 2, or sit, as shown in Fig. 3, or lie down.
The washing and toilet utensils such as soap, sponge, brushes, comb, and the like, and also towels, &c. can be arranged in pocket 0 or the like on the inside of the sack. These pockets can be closed by means of covers (Z. Also inspection or light openings 0, closed by transparent material, such as celluloid or the like, can be provided in the wall of the sack.
The lower part a of the sack can be formed of stiff material in order to increase the stability. Also the sack can be split longitudinally at its lower part, as shown in Fig. 5, in order to permit walking with the sack.
Bathing or washing can be effected in the sack with every convenience. Splashing of water and wetting of the floor is thus entirely prevented. Also by means of the sack the evaporation of the water on the body otherwise taking place in bathing and washing is prevented, whereby the catching of colds is avoided. The bathing and washing can therefore be done in cool places. Also radiation of the heat of the body is considerably reduced, whereby a very agreeable sensation is produced when using the sack. When the bathing or washing is completed, the person after release of the fastening draws the sack down again and steps out thereof.
In order to run off the washing-water or empty the sack, it can be provided with an outlet-pipe g, controlled by a cock f or the like or with any other suitable outlet-opening capable of being closed, and the emptying can be effected either by the person while still in-,
closed in the sack, in which case the outlet is made so as to be capable of being opened from the interior, or after the person has stepped out of the sack in the manner shown in Fig. 4:. After the sack has been emptied it can be folded together, so as to occupy a very small space, and then, if desired, tied or fastened together and kept in a bag, satchel, knapsack, or the like.
When using the sack as a steam or hot-air bath or the like, a suitable generator or reservoir can be connected to the run-off pipe 9 in order to enable steam, hot-air, or the like baths to be taken in the sack.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. An appliance of the character described, comprising a water-tight sack composed of waterproof material having the lower part stiifened so as to be adapted to receive and contain a bathing agent or fluid and provided with a controlled draw-off cock and means provided at the upper end of the sack adapted to permit of the fitting of the sack around the neck or drawing the same over the head of a person, whose body and limbs are concealed within the sack, substantially as and for the purposes described.
2. An appliance of the character described, comprising a water-tight sack composed. of
waterproof material having pockets and light or inspection openings arranged in the sack and at the base sti'lfened and provided with a draw-01f cock, said base adapted to receive and contain a bathing agent or fluid and means provided at the upper end of the sack adapted to permit of the fitting of the sack to the neck ADOLF HERZ.
