Be it known that I, JAMES S. BLACK, of the town of Oakland, in the county of Coles, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Lamp-Chim'ney` Cleaner; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.

Figure l is a perspective view of my improved lamp-chimney cleaner.

Figure 2 is a. sectionof the handle, to be hereinafter referred to.

This invention relates to an improvedlamp-chimney oleaner, and it consists in the combination of the springs with the slotted handle and sliding rod, and in the combination of the springs, guard, slotted handle, and sliding rod `with each other, as will be more fully explained.

A is the handle, and B B B are thin, Hat springs, secured in its end by the ferrule a. C is a rod extending longitudinally through the handle A, and between the springs B, as shown. To its outer end the ends of the springs B are attached in any suitable manner, In this instance a knob, b,fis shown upon the end of the rod C, and the springs seeure'l thereto by the ferrule a. ,Placed centrally upon the rod C, between the knob b and the end of the handle A, is a circular disk or guard, D, to prevent the springs from bendinginward as they are extended, The handle A is slotted longitudinally, from a point near the ferrule a to the opposite end d, and in this slot the rod C is operated, being retained within the handle by means'ot' the slot e and pin e. ff are shoulders formed upon the rod C, as shown in g. 2,1within the handle, to prevent said rod from being drawn out by the action ofthe springs:

The operation is as follows: The outer ends of the springs are placed in the centre of the material, E, to be employed in cleaning the chimney, such material being suiciently large to cover the sides of the springs. It is then insert-ed within' the chimney, and the springs expanded, as shown in red lines, tig. 1, around the rod C, by pulling with the finger upon the catch F, formed upon said rod.

By this arrangement a simple and economical vlamp-chimney cleaner is produced, not liable to get out of order, and which will be found effective in performing its work. i

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

'I'he disk D, in combination with the springs B and sliding central rod C, all arranged as described, whereby the springs are preventedifrom bending inward as they are extended, as herein shown and described.
