WINDOW BLIND LOGK.
APPLIGATION I'ILEDAPB. 22, 1903.
NO MODEL.
/I/I/III %vi humbe Patented January 26, 1904.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILIAM FRANKLIN STOUGH, OF PRATTVILLE, ALABAMA.
WINDOW-BLIND LOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 7 50,730, dated January 26, 1904.
Application filed April 22, 1903. Serial No. 153,777. No ode To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILIAM FRANKLIN STOUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prattville, in the County of Autauga and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Blind Looks, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for looking blinds, and has for its object to provide a device in which a pivoted catch is concealed in a casing and cannot be lifted except by inserting a key through the end of the casing. The casing may be made long enough to eXtend nearly to the lower rail of the window-sash, so that it would be necessary to raise the window to open the blind. The key may also be used to hold the catch locked by leaving it inserted in the end of the casing and then closing the sash down upon it.
The advantages of my invention will fully appear hereinafter and by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a view of a fragment of window sill, sash, and blind, showing my latch in section and in a locked position; Fig. 2, a similar View showing the manner of unlocking the blind, and Fig. 3 a cross-section of the device.
Referring to the drawings, in which similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, A represents a window-blind, B the window-sill, and C the sash.
D represents a casing having a fiange E, which is secured to the blind A by screws or other suitable means. As shown in Fig. 3, casing D is made U-shaped in cross-section and has pivoted therein a gravity-latch F, which when the blind is locked drops into notch H in sill B. Notch H may be, as shown in the drawings, cut into the sill and have a plate I at the outer end, or it may be formed of metal and adapted to be inserted in the sill. In either case it must be formed with a slanting bottom surface J from the outer end upwardly toward the inner side of the sill.
K represents the looking and unlockng key, having one end formed with lug L. By inserting the key in the end of casing D, which is provided with an opening M for that purpose, and sliding it down the slanting bottom J the lug L as soon as it has passed beyond the pivot of latch G will raise it by using the key as a lever and the end of notch H as a fulcrum. When the blind is closed, the latch Gr may be held in a locked position by inserting key K so that lug L bears against the free end of the latch. The window-sash C may then be lowered on the key, and after the sash is closed the blind will be securely held and cannot be unlocked Without raising the sash.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim isl. In combination with a window sill and blind, a casing secured to the blind, a latch pivoted in said casing, a notch in the sill to receive said latch, and means to positively hold said latch in a locked position, substantially as shown and described.
2. In combination with a window sill and blind, a casing Secured to the blind, a latch pvoted in said casing, a notch in the sill having a slanting bottom and adapted to receive said latch, and a key having a lug to lift said latch from said notch, and to positively hold it in a locked position, substantially as shown and described.
3. In combination with a window sill, sash and blind, a casing secured to the blind, a latch pivoted in said casing, anotch in the sill having a slanting bottom and adapted to receive said latch, and a key having a lug, said lug adapted to seat under the free end of said latch and the key under the window sash when the blind is locked, and to slide down the slanting bottom of said notch when lifting the latch, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILIAM FRANKLIN STOUGH.
Witnesses:
