Be it known that I, WILLIAM BRAUN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brushes, of which the following is a full and complete specification,

such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The object of this invention is to provide an improved brush for use in cleaning lampchimneys, bottles, jugs, jars, and other vessole of this class, a further object being to provide a device of this class which is conveniently,cheaply, and easily made and which is strong and durable and at the same time I comparatively inexpensive.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separateparts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure l is a plan view showing the first step in the operation of making my improved brush; Fig. 2, a similar view showing the brush partially completed, and Fig. 3 a similaiview showing the brush completed.

In the practice of my invention I take a strong wire and fold the same centrally, as shown at a, to form two parallel members a and between the parallel wire members a and centrally thereof I place a bunch I) of bristles, sea-grass, or other suitable material folded in the middle, as shown at 12 andv suitable material at b and also preferably.

This operation of twisting the wire members a together, as shown in Fig. 2, causes the bristles or other suitable material 0 toform cylindrical brushes, as shown at 0 the central bunch 19 being held in position by a central elliptical loop a, formed by twisting the wire members a together.

After twisting the wire members a together, as shown in Fig. 2, the device thus made, as shown in said figure, is bent centrally in the same manner as the members a were first bent at a, and the separate parts a are then twisted together, as shown at a to form a shank for the brush, to which the handle d is secured.

The folding together and twisting together of the parts a causes the cylindrical brushes 0 to form a single cylindrical brush c and in this operation the bunchbis twisted into the form shown at b in Fig. 3, so as to form a transverse brush member at the end of the cylindrical brush member 0 The twisting together of the wire members a securely binds the bristles or other material a, and said bristles or other material are securely held and will not work outor loosen and cannot be pulled out, and the twisting together of the parts or members a so as to form an approximately cylindrical brush member 0 and the brush member 5 also aid in binding all the bristles or other material securely in place, and my improved brush will not come apart and will last as long as the-bristles or other material will last.

By making a brush in this manner it may be inserted into an ordinary bottle or a lampchimney, and the inside of a lamp-chimney may be quickly and easily cleaned, as may also the inside of a bottle and the bottom vthereof or any other vessel of the class speci- Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A brush member comprising two parallel sections each formed of wires twisted together and brush material held between the wires, the wires of the sections being integral and formed into a loop at one end of the brush, and brush material held in said loop, the wire sections at the other end of the brush forming a shank for a handle, substantially as shown and described.
