PATENT OFFICE.
ELLING O. BERG, OF MADISON, MINNESOTA.
PNEUMATIC STACKER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 748,575, dated January 5, 1904. Application filed March 27, 1903. Serial No. 149,809. (No model.)
:0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLING O. BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madison, in the county of Lao qui Parle and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pneumatic Stackers; and I do'hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to multiplex pneumatic stackersto wit, that class of pneumatic stackers which have independent fans and delivery-spouts, the one for delivering the straw and the other for delivering 'the chaff-and has for its object to improve such pneumatic stacker-s in point of simplicity and efficiency.
To the above ends the invention consists of the novel devices and combinations of devices hereinafter described, and defined in the claim.
Theinvention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the rear portion of a threshingmachine and showing my improved multiplex pneumatic stacker applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section taken centrally through the parts shown in Fig. 1, some parts being broken away; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line a w of Fig. 2, some parts being broken away. 7
The numeral 1 indicates the case of an ordinary threshing-machine or separator having, as is usual, the reciprocating shoe 2, with chad-delivery screen 3, and, further, having the ordinary reciprocating straw-bolt 4, which consists of serrated bars that Work over the chaff-delivery deck 5 and serve to agitate the straw and deliver the same at the rear end of the case.
The straw delivered at the rear end of the case from the reciprocating bolt 4 falls into the open spout 6 of a fan-case 7, which is suitably secured to the rear portion of the case 1 and is provided with a stack or pneumatic delivery-tube 8, which is preferably hinged at 9. suitable bearings on the rear end of the case 1,
A fan-head 10, mounted in works in the fan-case 7. The shaft of the fan-head 10 is provided at one end with a pulley 11, over which runs a power-driven belt (not shown) for rotating the said fanhead. The chad-screen 3 delivers the chafi directly into an open trough 12, which extends transversely of. the case 1 and is suitably secured thereto just inward of the fancase 7 and below the delivery or rear ends of the shoe 2 and screen 3. At one end and at one side of the case 1 the trough 12 opens into one side of a comparatively small fancase 13, which is also rigidly secured to the case 1 and is provided with a pneumatic discharge tube or stack 14:. A spiral feed-screw 15 works in the trough 12, with its shaft suitably journaled in bearings on the case 1 and provided at one end with a pulley 16, over Which runs a power-driven belt (not shown) for rotating the said feed screw or worm 15. A fan-head 17, secured to the shaft of the feed screw or worm 15, works in the fancase 13.
Rotary movements being imparted to the fan-heads l0 and 17 and the worm or feed screw 15, the action will be substantially as follows: The clean straw will be delivered from the bolt 4: into the open neck 6 of the fan-case 7 and will be blown outward through the stack 8 and deposited at a suitable point. The chad which is delivered into the trough 12 from the sieve 3 will be takenup between the worm or feed screw 15 and carried transversely of the case 1 and delivered into the fan-case 13, from whence it will be blown outward through the stack 14. The straw and the chafi are thus delivered at different points, so that they will not be again oommingled. The worm or feed screw 15 acts on the fine chafi and positively forces the same into the fan-case 13, so that the chaff may be discharged by a fan of much less size and power than would be required to deliver the same if the suction of the fan should be relied upon both to collect and discharge the ohafi.
It will of course be understood that the device described is capable of modification.
within the scope of my invention as herein set forth and claimed.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is as follows: The combination with a separator, of a fan in position to receive the straw, and provided with a discharging-stack, the trough extending transversely of the machine, inposition to receive the chaff, a. fan-case receiving from one end of said trough, a feed-worm working in said trough, and a fan-head secured on the shaft of said feed-worm and working in said fan-case, the said fan-case having a deliverystack, which is independent of the beforenoted stack, substantially as described. IO
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
