HERBERT TAYLOR, OF BLACKBURN, ENGLAND..
FRIOTION LET-OFF FOR LOOMs.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 745,121, dated November 24, 1903. Application filed July 20,1903. SerialNo.166,309. (No model.)
T0 MZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT TAYLOR, residing at Moss street,Blackburn,in the county of Lancaster, England, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Apparatus for Regulating the Tension of the Warps in Looms for Weaving; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in apparatus designed for regulating the tension on the warpsin looms for weaving, the object being to dispense altogether with the weights as heretofore employed and to substitute therefor mechanism which can with ease and facility be operated and controlled from the on can at any desired time regulate the amount of friction between the weight-ropes and the necks of the warp-beam, and so ad- The invention consists of a peculiar arrangement and combination of levers enablin g the weaver to control the warp-beam and warps without moving from the front of the loom and without having to handle cumbersome and heavy weights, and dispensing with the weights also effects a savingin space occupied by each loom and clears the passageways between adjoining machines. l
Referring to the drawings which form a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a view in elevation of so much of a loom as is required in order to illustrate the invention applied to the warp-beam, and Fig. 2 is a plan view of the improved apparatus with the warpbeam removed in order to clearly show its construction.
According to this invention the necks l 1 of the warp-beam 2 are provided with weightropes 3 3, as ordinary, one end of each rope 3 being attached to the loom-frame A or a bracket, such as 5, fixed thereto, and either with or without an intervening spring, such as 6. The free ends of the ropes 3 3 are atv tached to the outer ends of levers 7 7, free to move or rock on fulcrum-studs 8 8, fixed in the back rail or frame 4 of the loom. The inner and free ends 9 9 of the levers 7 7 rest in the clips or forks 10 of the rocking lever 11, which is carried on the stud 12, xed inthe lever 13, mounted on a fulcrum-stud 1A in the bracket 15, fixed to the back rail 4 of the loom, and the free end of this lever 13 extends to the front of the loo`m,where it passes through a vertical rack 16, provided withl teeth or holding-notches 17. v
By depressing the lever 13 at the front of the loom the opposite end and the rocking lever l1 are raised, and also the ends of the two cross-levers 7 7 are also raised and the outer ends are lowered, a strain being put upon the ropes 3 3 and a greater weight or tension is put upon the beam 2. The rack or holding device 16 is provided for the purpose of holding the lever 13 in the position to which it has been moved. The rocking lever 11 being free to move on its stud 12, accommodates itself to the levers 7 7 and-exerts an equal pressure on both. The lever 13 is provided with a telescopic lengthening-bar 18, which is drawn out before the lever 13 is depressed, so as to facilitate the operation, and it is pushed in, as shown in Fig. 2, when the lever 13 is fixed in the rack 16.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- Y l. The combination, with awarp-beam, and tension-ropes wound thereon and secured at one end; of two pivoted levers having their outer ends connected to the free ends of the said ropes, a rocking lever pivoted to the adjacent ends of oted operating-lever extending at a right angle tothe aforesaid levers and pivoted to the middle part of the said rocking lever.
2. The combination, with a warp-beam, and tension-ropes wound thereon and secured at one end; of two pivoted levers having their outer ends connected to the free ends of the the two said levers, and a piv-V IOO
