Be it known that I, JOEL GLEAsoN,-loi` Whitestone, in lthe county of Queens, and Stateoi New York,` have invented a new and useful Iinprovement inSoldering-Tool and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and' use the same, referencelbeing had to the' accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification. I
The drawing represents a soldering-tool of my invention. v The design of this'impr'ovement is to make a'solid soldering-tool in two parts, and of the same or different niemals, and consists in forming the copper point with n.- screw in the back end, which" screws into a cast-iron base with a wrought-iron handle, or a. base and handle oi' copper or any other suitablc'metal, With this plan `Vof construction, the eopper'pointadmits of renewal when worn away so as to be too light for service, the handle part remaining as good as ever for along time. In a tool of such extensive employment as the soldering-iron, this plan of construction will eii'ect an important economy in the trade of plumbing and tinning, as the tools in common use have to be replaced by new` tools when the points are worn away to render them too light'for service. n the drawing, A represents an independent copper point, having a screw, a, in the rear, which fastens the pointto a castIiron base or body, B, to giveit proper weight for service, in which is casta wrought-ironhandle, C, the whole forming asoldering-tool similar ingeneral conformation to the tool in common use, and always i as eil`ective as a new tool made entirely of copper. When thepoint A becomes worn, and the tool is too light Y for good service, it can he unscrewed from the cast-iron base B, and a new copper point put in its place at a.
triing cost. A
` Having described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- Constructing a soldering-tool formed of the Acopper point A, screwed into a cast-iron base, B, and provided with a wrought-iron handle, C, as and forthe purpose hereindescribed. Y l
I The above Specification of my invention signed byme, this 6th day of March, 1867. i
` JOEL GLEASON.
