Description

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it -known that I, HENRY SJMAGRANE, of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and improved Button-Fastener; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had `to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
Figure l is a side view of my improved buttorl-fastener.
Figure '2 shows the same partially inserted in the eye of a button. Figure 3 shows its-position whenin use. l Similar `letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish any improved fastener f or ladies culi-buttons, vest-buttons, and
similar uses, which may be easily inserted `in the eye of the button, which will hold the button securely, which will not be liable to work itself out, and which, when inserted in the eye of the button, will lie closely against the surface of the garment; and it consists in a button-fastener, constructed in the form and manner hereinafter more fully described.
' A is the button-fastener, which is made of wire, the size of which will depend upon the size of the button,
and thecharacter ot' the garment to which it is to be secured. In forming the fastener, the Wire of whichit is to be formed is bent so as to form a loop, al, in its middle part. The wires are then bentinward and again outward, as shown in iig. 1, to form a neck, a2, for'the reception of the eye of the button. The ends of the Wire are then bent inward, as shown in Iig. l, until their points meet or nearly meet, forming an acute angle. This forms the second loop, a3. f
In using the fastener, the point of the fastener or ends of the wire are inserted in the eyeot' the button, andthe i'astener is then pushed into place, the wires taking the position shown in iig. 2, as they pussthrough the eye of the button, until the said eye hasentered the neck a2, when the elasticity'ot the wire brings the fastener again into the form shown in iig. 1.
This construction makes the fastener very easy to be inserted and removed from thebutton in any situation, 'nut it is especially convenient in attaching the central button, in putting up ladies cuis for market, entirely removing the diiIiculty which has hitherto been experienced in attaching the said central button hy means of any of the fasteners now in use.
I ela-im as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- An improved bnttont`astenei, made in substantially the form and manner herein shown and described, as
` a new article of manufacture.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 27th day of July, 1867. y
HENRY S. MAGRANE.
