To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, J OSEPH V. PEACOOK, a

i citizen of the United States of America, and

a resident of Avon, in the county of Livingston and State of New York,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe- Polishers, of which thefollowing is a specification.

The present invention relates to that class of shoe-polishers in which a flexible polishing strip or web tensioned upon a rigid holder head or handle is employed to effect the required polishing operation; and the'present improvement has for its object to provide a simple, durable, and compact polishing appliance affordin g an economical and substantialattachment of the polishing web or fabric to its rigid holder-head and an avoidance of rigid ends or corners and the liability to accidental injury therefrom of the shoe or the foot of the wearer, all as will hereinafter more fully appear and be more particularly pointed struction, in which a single dauberis arranged .at one end of the polisher head -or holder.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents an elongated grasping-handle of wood or other like light and rigid material and which is pro- 3 videdwith longitudinal grooves 2 in its sides for more effective engagement by the fingers of the user.

3 is a longitudinal metal member secured by screws or other usual fasteners tov the under side of the handle 1.

4 represents end extensions of the longitudinal member 3, which, in the present invention have an angular relation to said member 3 and are spread apart at their free ends, as

shown.

5 represents holding-jaws formedby flanges or bends in the free ends of the extension 4 and adapted to beset or pinched down upon the ends of the flexible polishing strip or web,

hereinafter described, to secure the same in position in a simple and substantial manner.

I 6 is the usual flexible polishing strip or web, the ends of which are secured, as before described, to the holder-jaws 5, with the main portion of the strip or web extending under light tension from one extension 4 to the other and adistance away from the grasping-handle 1, as shown. the end portions of the polishing strip that pass around the end extensions 4 are made of a tubular form and provided with an elastic filling 7 to form cushions at such points and prevent injury to the shoe or foot of the wcarer in the actual use of the appliance.

Having thus fully described mysaid in vention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. In a polishing appliance of the character" herein described, the combination of an elongated grasping-handle, a metallic member secured to said handle and provided with angular extensions, a flexible polishing-strip extending between the ends of said extensions, and means for securing the ends of the polishing-strip to saidextensions, the same comprising flanges or bends on the ends of said extensions which are adapted to be pinched upon the ends of the polishing-strip, substantially-as set forth.

2. In a polishing appliance of the character herein described, the combination of an elongated grasping-handle, a metallic member secured to said handle and provided with an.- gular extensions, a flexible polishing-strip extending between the ends of said extensions and formed with tubular padded ends, and means for securing the ends of the polishingstrip to said extensions .which are adapted to be pinched upon the ends of the polishing-strip, substantially as set forth.
