AENT F E- FRANK'J. PETERSON, OF SIOUX CITY, IOWA.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 736,147, dated August 1 1, 1903. Application filed November 21, 1902. Serial No. 132,316. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: I Be it known that I, FRANKJ. PETERSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sioux City, in the county of Woodbury and State of f. 5 Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvef ments in Fence-Posts, of which the following I is a specification.
This invention relates to fence-posts; and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and efiective device of this character which can be advantageously employed as a substitute for wood or iron fence-posts and which will not be subject to rusting, rotting, or disintegration by the action of the 15 elements.
The improved fence-post consists of a concrete body; bolts permanently embedded in and projecting from the body, the inner ends of the bolts having heads constituting anchors to positively prevent their withdrawal and their outer endsbeing threaded; a facing-strip to fit flatwise against and extending longitudinally of a face of said body, perforated to receive the threaded ends of the bolts and 1 .25 grooved upon its inner face to receive fencing-wires, and nuts upon thethreaded ends of the bolts bearing against the outer face of I the strip to removably hold the same in place.
Y The invention is clearly shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved fence-post. Fig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same. Fig. 8 is a detail view of 5the facing-strip. I Like characters refer to like parts in the several figures. V
The body of the improved fence-post is denoted by 2, and it consists of concrete or its equivalent molded to the proper shape and made of the materials generally used in forming concrete structures. I embed in the body 2during its process of manufacture the superposed bolts 3, any desirable number of 1 45 which may be provided. The inner ends of the bolts are headed to provide anchors to positively prevent the withdrawal of said bolts, the outer or projecting ends of the latter being threaded to receive the nuts 4.. A facing-strip 5, of wood, wood fiber, metal, or other suitable material, fits against the face of the concrete body, from which the threaded ends of the bolts 3 project, said facingstrip being perforated to receive said threaded ends. The nuts of the bolts bear against the outer side of the facing-strip to hold it firmly against the body 2. The inner face of the strip 5 has superposed parallel grooves 6 (see Fig. 3) to receive fencing-wires, as 7,
V drawn.
Having described the invention, what I claim is- A fence-post consisting of a concrete body, bolts permanently embedded in and projecting from the body, the inner ends of the bolts having heads constituting anchors to positively prevent their withdrawal and their outer ends being threaded, a facing-strip to fit flatwise against and extending longitudinally of a face of said body, perforated to receive the threaded ends of the bolts and grooved upon its inner face to receive fencing-wires, and nuts upon the threaded ends of the bolts bearing against the outerface of the strip to removably hold the same in place.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my-hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK J. PETERSON. Witnesses:
O. W. TAYLOR, W. A. JAMISON.
