Be it known that l, FRANCIS HARRY DAWEs,
onethousand sheets of paper and provide means for conveying the sheets forward one after the other to an engagement with gearconnected distributing-rollers and to so locate the rollers with reference Ato the package and an outlet-opening in the casing of the cabinet that after the iirst sheet has been manually exposed through the medium of the rollers at the said outlet-opening the action of withdrawing the exposed sheet from thecabinet will automatically cause a second sheet to be exposed at the outlet-opening of the cabinet, this result occurring each time asheet is removed.
The invention consists in the novel construction andicombination of the several parts, as willbe hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be hadto the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the cabinet viewed from the front. Fig. 2 is an end view, a portion of the cabinet being broken away. Fig. 3 is a partial end view and transverse section through the cabinet, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the back plate of the cabinet removed therefrom and the springs on said plate for feedingthe `paper package forward.
The casing A may be of any desired shape. As shown, it is rectangular and provided with a breast or oset 10 at the upper portion of its front surface. The top 11 of the breast 10 is segmental, its inner face being concaved,
and in the said breast below and quite close to the top 11 an outlet-opening 12 is made in the form of a slot, the lower edge of which outletopening has an upwardly and rearwardly extending lip 13, as is shown in Fig. 3.
In the further construction of the casing an oifset chamber 14 is formed at the upper portion of one end, normallyclosed by a detachable capplate 15, and at the bottom portion of the casing at Vthe front and rear a horizontal opening 16 is provided, and outwardly-extending studs or pins 17 are centrally` located at the bottomedgeof each of said openings, as is shown in Figs. 1, A2, and 3. The casing has also a slot 18 in one end, through which the package of paper is visible, to determine when the package is exhausted and should be replaced. The casing is provided with a detachable back plate 19, locked thereto in any approved manner, and upon the inner face of said back plate two Areversibly positioned T- springs 20 and 21 are located,`.the head of one spring extending transversely near the upper edge of the back plate while the head of the other spring extends in parallelism a desired distance below, as shown in Fig. 4.
The shanks of themsprings 2O and 21 are secured tothe back plate at their terminal ends and are then forwardlyprojeeted from the back plate a sufficient distance to enable the heads of thesprings to bear against the back of the paper package B sufliciently to force the last sheet of ,papeiin engagement with distributing-rollers 22 and 23.V These rollers 22 and 23 are located one below the other, the upper roller being near the segmental top 11 of the breast 10and the second'roller near the lower portion of the breast, as is shown in Fig. 3. The rollers have a peripheral cushion of rubber, felt, or like material, enabling them to have purchase upon the sheet of paper with which they engage and are secured to shafts 24 and 25, journaled in the ends of the casing. Two gears 26 and 27 of equal size are located within the offset chamber. 14 andsecured, re-
spectively, to the shafts 24 and-25, and these gears are actuated by a pinionQ, secured upona shaft 27, extending between Jthe distributing-rollers and journaled` also in the ends of the casing.
One end of the intermediate shaft 27 a extends through the cap-plate 15 for the chambei` 14 and has a knob 28 secured to its projecting end, whereby to initially set the train of gearing in motion to feed the first sheet to the outlet opening 12 of the casing. The package of paper B is introduced into the casing upside down at the back, the back plate being removed, and the springs 2O and 2l bear against a plate or a piece of cardboard 29 at the rear of the package, as is shown in Fig. 3. After a package has been placed in the casing the' ends of the wire usually employed to connect the sheets of paper are carried out through the bottom opening 16 in the casing and are secured to the studs or pins 17.
In operation when a package of paper has been placed in the cabinet with the first or forward sheet in engagement with the distributing-rollers the pinion connecting the two gears carried by the rollers is turned by hand through the medium of the knob 28 until, for example, an end of the first sheet has been carried over the uppermost distributing-roller and is made to extend out through the outletopening of the casing, as is shown in Fig. 3. Upon grasping the projecting end ofthis sheet with the fingers of the hand and drawing the sheet out from the cabinet or casing the upper roller will be revolved and likewise the lower roller sufficiently to cause the next sheet of paper which is immediately brought in contact with the distributing-rollers to be carried over the top of the upper distributing-roller and one of its ends projected out through the outlet-opening of the casing of the cabinet. Thus it will be observed that as each sheet of paper is withdrawn from the cabinet the distributing-rollers are automatically operated to bring another sheet in position to be withdrawn. The upper curved top ll of the breast l0 serves in a measure to direct the forward end of the sheet of paper detached from the package to the outlet-opening at the front of the breast.
The device is exceedingly simple, it is economic and durable in its construction, and
vpackages of paper may be placed therein in a convenient and expeditious manner.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A toilet-package cabinet consisting of a casing having an outlet-opening in its front face, a back plate for the cabinet, springs at tached to the inner face of the back plate and forwardly offset therefrom, distributing-rollers located within the cabinet in vertical relation between its forward wall and its back plate, the upper roller being opposite an outlet-opening in the casing, a train of gearing connecting the said rollers, and an exteriorlyoperated driving-shaft for said gearing, independent of the roller, as described.
2. In a toilet-package cabinet, a casing having a segmental upper section, the inner face of which is concaved, oppositely-disposed T-V springs attached to the inner face of the back of the casing and forwardly offset therefrom,
distributing rollers located one above the other, the upper distributing-roller being below the segmental section of the top of the casing, the front of the casing being provided with an outlet-slot adjacent to the upper distributing-roller, a train of gearing connecting the two rollers, and means, substantially as described, for operating the said train of gearing from the exterior of the casing.
3. A toilet-package cabinet, consisting lof a casing provided with a front breast having a segmental upper portion and a transverse outlet-opening near its segmental section, oppositelydisposed T springs secured at their Shanks to the inner face of the back of the casing, the springs being forwardly odset from the back, distributing-rollers journaled within the breast portion of the casing, one above the other, the upper roller being beneath the segmental upper portion of the breast and adjacent to the outlet-opening thereof, an upwardly and rearward ly inclined lip extending from the lower wall of the said outlet-opening, a shaft mounted to turn in the casing and 1ocated between the rollers, gears secured to the trunnions of the said rollers, a pinion secured to the intermediate shaft, meshing with the said gears, and means for exteriorly operating the intermediate shaft, as described.
