"MEANS FOR GLAZING WINDOWS.
SPECIFICATION forming, part of Iletters Patent No. 734,829, dated July 28, 1903.
Application filed December 1,1902. Serial No. 133,489. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTOINE DIAT, DIT DIAZ, a citizen of the French Republic, and a resident of Brussels, Belgium, have invented a certain new and useful Improved Means for GlazingWindows and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
. The object of this invention is to provide means of glazing windows or the like with very thick glass and especially glass strengthened by metal to form an incombustible winburned and iron will warp beneath the action 4 is a section on B B of Fig. 1.
of the heat, and thus break the glass.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a sash made according to the present invention and com-' prising iron strips upon the outside. The left half of this figure shows an outside view of the sash, while the other half shows an inside view of same, Fig. 2 shows a detail of Fig.
1. Fig. 3 is a section onA Aot' Fig. 1. Fig. Fig. 5 is a section on C C of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a section on D D of Fig. 1. 'Fig. 7 is a section on E E of Fig. 1. Fig. 8 is a section on F F of Fig. 1. Fig. 9 is a section on G G of Fig. 1. Fig. 10 is a section on H H of Fig. 1. Fig. 11 is a detail. Fig. 12 is a plan view of the stop shown. inFig. 2. Fig. 13 is aninside view of a sash made according to this invention, but
without frameirons. Fig. 14 is a Section on I I of Fig. 13. Fig. 15 is a section on J J of Fig. 13. Fig. 16 is a section on K K of Fig. 13, Fig. 17 is a section on L L of Fig. 13. Fig. 18 is a section on M M of Fig. 13. Fig. 19 is a section on N N of Fig. 13. Fig. 20 is a section on O O of Fig. .13.
In the species shown in Figs. 1 to 12 each sheet of glass at is placed behind a frame 12,
formed of iron strips, and they are. held between this frame and stops 0, made of copper, held fast by means of screws of the same metal. In order to prevent any passage of air and water, bands 6 and stops of asbestos are inserted between the frame-irous, the stops, and the sheets of glass, and thus form a tight joint. When two panes are superposed in the same sash, they are arranged so as to overlap each other, as will be seen from Fig. 9. By this means a perfect tightness is obtained, and the use of any iron toward the interior of buildings is avoided, and consequently breakage of glass in case of fire.
The overlapping of two superposed panes in a same sash necessitates the'useof apackingstrip 9 beneath the T-irons constituting the lower sash-frames.
In the species shown in Figs. 13 to 20 the glass is placed in arecess h, made in the brickwork, and is held therein by stops 0, bolts 2', one end whereof is held in the said brickwork, and nuts j with washers f and strips of asbestos e inserted therebetween. A layer of cement k is inserted between the outer asbestos washer and the brickwork. At its lower end the glass bears, by means of a strip Patent, is-
In combination, an outer sash of rolled iron, a glass window-pane, adapted to fit said sash, copper or soft-iron stops and screws engagingsaid sash and pane to support the latter, strips of asbestos between said sash and pane and washers of asbestos between said stops and pane.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
ANTOINE DIAT, DIT DIAZ.
