To allv whom it may concern/.q
Be it known thatweSAMUEL.STENGER and JOHN CALVIN MALLonY, citizensof the United States, and residents of Altoona, vin the county of Blair and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Goods-Exhibitor, of which the following is aV specification.
Our invention relates to goods-exhibitors for displaying merchandisesuch'as oil-cloth, linoleum, matting, carpets, andthe like-in rolls or bolts. t
The invention consists of the novel features, details of construction, and combination of the parts which hereinafter will be fully disclosed and iinally claimed. l
While the essential and characteristic features of the invention are necessarily susceptible of modiication, still the preferred embodiment thereof is illustrated in the aceompanying drawings, forming apart of this speciiication.
In the drawings, Figure l is a viwshowing our invention inside elevation. Fig. 2 is a similar view, part in section. Fig. 3 is a top plan view, and Fig. et is a horizontal section through the standard'and hinged arms look-` ing down.
In carrying out our invention we employ a platform A, supported by rollers A of an approved type.
C denotes a suitable standard projecting np from the platform A and having suitable braced support thereon. At the upper end of this standard we provide a series of perforations C', aprojeeting pin C2, and a washer C3, which latter is supported by the pin C2, as shown.
The features above described constitute the supporting means for our improved rotatable goods-holder, whiehwe will describe as follows: Y l Y A In constructing our goods-holder we employ a base D, having eoncentrically located therethrough a vertical perforation D', adapted to receive the standard C. On the under side of the base D a series of rollers D2 are arranged, which travel upon a circular track D3 on the platform A. In connection with the base D we employ an upper circular or other shaped head E, which is fixed on a tube serai no. 148,553; Nbmodein E at theupper end thereof. The tube E is made depending, as shown, and adapted to of `said perforations C', as will be understood.
With our invention we employ a series of arms F, having hinged connection F at their lower ends with the base D. The arms F are located in circular arrangement, as shown, and with their upper ends adapted to engage lreceive vthe standard C. The lower en d of =the tube E rests upon the washer C3, and therebyproviding support for the head E. The perforations Cin'the standard C afford vadjustment of the head F., which is effected 'by changing the pin C2 from, one to another of the armsF we provide a rotatable support G, whereby the lower edge of the roll of goods on the arms is protected in un winding or winding action thereof, as will be understood.
H indicates a' suitable knife having sliding support on a rod H. This rod is held in vertical position by having its lower end stepped into a suitable socket I on the base D and with its upper end extended through a suitable keeper J, xed to the head E, as shown. It will be noticed that a socket I and keeper J are located about half-way between each two arms F of the series. According to our invention one knife, will serve for cutting the goods of either roll thereof on the exhibitor, and it may be changed from roll toroll by lifting and withdrawing its supportingrod H' from the socket I and keeper .I and rearranging it in the desired holders I J, which are provided therefor between each hinged arm F on Vthe exhibitor.
Our improved knife-support has advantage not only in its adjustability, but also of the fact that it provides means whereby cutting of the goods with squared ends is facilitated.- Having thus described our invention, whatv ICO of the character described, vertically-supported arms having hinged connection at one end with a suitable base, a head member having catch devices thereon adapted for engagement with the upper ends of the said arms, and a sliding guided knife, adapted for cutting goods on the said arms substantially as described.
2. The combination in an exhibitor of the character described employing a platform and a standard as specified, goods-supporting means consisting of a base with rollers on its under side, a head member having adjustable support on the said standard, a series of arms having hinged connection at their lower ends with the said base, catches on the said head member adapted for locking engagement with the upper ends of the said hinged arms, a rotatable support at the lower end of each hinged arm, recesses in the outer edge of the said head adapted to receive the upper ends of the said hinged arms, a knife having guided support on a suitable rod, sockets on the said base and keepers on the said head located and adapted for supporting the said knife-guiding rod, substantially as described.
3. In combination with a rotatable exhibitor of the character described having a series of roll-holding arms as specified, the said arms having hinged connection with a suitable base, means adapted for securing the free ends (5f-.the said arms, goods-cutting means, consisting of a knife having sliding movement on a guiding-rod, and means be tween each two roll-holding arms of the `series, adapted for supporting the said knifeguiding rod, substantially as described.
