Description

W. FINN. DENTAL PLASK PRESS. APPLIOATION rum; JAN. 1a, 1903.
PATENTED JUNE 16, 1903.
F0 MODEL.
Wmknesse s.
UNITED STATES Patented June 16, 1903.
WVILLIAM FINN, CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA.
- DENTAL-IFLASK PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 731,030, dated June 16, 1903.
Application filed January 13, 1903. I Serial No. 138.940.- (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that LWILLIAM FINN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of Iowa,-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental-Flask Presses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to presses or flaskholders used by dentists in vulcanizing plates; and the object of the invention is to so improve the construction of such presses as to enable the operator to move all the clampingscrews concurrently, so that the action of the press may be both speedy and uniform.
The nature of the invention will appear from the description and claims following, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side view, partly in central vertical section, illustrating a press embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same below the line a b of Fig. 1.
As usually constructed a dental-flask press comprises a base-plate A, a top plate B, se-
cured at a distance therefrom by standards 0,
and a plurality of thumb-screws D, preferably three, to bear on as many points of the upper flask E.
My improvement comprises a central gear F, connected by a suitable stem or shaft G with a handle or hand-Wheel H, and a trunnion G at the lower end entering a bearing 13' in the top plate, the gear meshing with pinions D, attached to the screws D. The gear F has a wide-enough face to allow for the necessary travel of the pinions as the screws IHOXG up or down. By this simple means it becomes possible to turn all the screws simultaneously, so that the same pressure is always secured at all points. It also enables the operator to clamp his flasks very quickly, as he has but one shaft to turn instead of three separate thumb-screws. The central gear and handle or hand-wheel is made removable and is a convenience in placing the press in the vulcanizer and removing it therefrom. For this purpose it is provided with a catch 1, sliding in the lower end of the shaft G and adapted to engage the under side of the top plate, as shown. This catch is connected with a light lever J, extending up through the shaft, which is made tubular for the purpose, and a fulcrum ring or flange J is attached to the lever about midway of its length and fits the bore of the shaft. By this means the catch may be engaged or disengaged from above by the finger of the operator.
Having thus described my invention, what .I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The combination with a dental-flask press having'a plurality of clamping-screws, of a handle detachably connected therewith, a
catch to engage the press, a lever connected with the handle to operate said catch, and a geared connection of the handle with the screws, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
