IINrrED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EUGENE RIVET, OF WQONSOCKET, RIIODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO ISAAC B. MERRIMAN, 7 OF PROVIDENCE, I RHODE ISLAND.
:PICKER- STICK CONNECTION FOR LOOMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 729,797, dated June 2, 1903.
Application filed Maroh'ZS, 1903. Serial No. 149,131. (No model-l To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EUGENE RIVET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woonsocket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Picker-Stick Connections for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to devices for con- 10 necting lug-straps to the picker staifs of looms; and it consists in the peculiar and advantageous device hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View illustrating my improved device as connecting a lug-strap to a pickerstaff, the staff being shown by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken in the plane indicated by the broken line 2 2 of Fig.
3 with the staff in full lines. Fig. 3 is a vertical section taken through the picker-staff, lug-strap, and connecting device and illustrating the staff in dotted lines.
Similar letters designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings, referring to whichn A is the picker-staif; B, the lug-strap, having a bighta, and C the improved connect- 0 ing device.
In the present and preferred embodiment of myinvention the connecting deviceis made up of a body formed of one piece of metal and comprising end loops b, having screw-tapped apertures c in their outer cross-bars d, longitudinal bars e, connecting the side bars of the end loops, and a longitudinal barf, connecting the outer cross-bars d of said end loops and round or convex at its outer side, a me- 40 tallic shoe g, adapted to be interposed between the cross-bars (Z and longitudinal bar f of the body and the outer edge of the pickerstaff, and screws 2, hearing in the apertures c of the body and adapted to press at their 5 inner ends against the shoe g.
In the practical use of my improvements the device 0 is adjustably fixed on the staff A by turning the screws h inwardly, so as to bind the shoe g against the outer edge of the staff, and the lug-strap B is arranged as best shown in Fig. 1t. e., withits bight resting against the round side of the bar f of the body and its side portions interposed between the bars 6 of said body and thesides of the pickerstaff. When the parts are thus arranged, it will be observed that the lug-strap is securely connected to and held against movement on the staff; also, that the liability of the strap being Worn by friction and breaking away from the staff is reduced to a minimum.
The screws h and the shoe g adapt the connecting device to be readilyand securely fixed on the staif at any point, and this in such manner that there is a uniform pressure upon a considerable portion of the staff, with the result that the application of the connecting device to the staff strengthens rather than weakens the latter.
I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of the parts embraced in the present and preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart a full, clear, and exact understanding of the same. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confiningmyself to such specific construction and arrangement of parts, as such changes or modifications may be made in practice as fairly fall within the scope of my invention asclaimed.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire tosecure by Letters Patent,
1. The combination of the picker-staff, the
lug-strap straddling the staff, and the connecting device comprising the body mounted on the staff, and having the bar, convex at its outer side, interposed between the outer edge of the staff and the bight of the strap, and the side bars disposed at the outer sides of the side portions of the strap, a shoe interposed between said body and the staff, and a screw, bearing in the body, for pressing the shoe against the staff.
2. The combination of thepicker-stafi, the lug-strap straddling the staff, and the connecting device comprising the body mounted on the stafi, and having end loops, receiving the staff, and provided in their outer cross-bars with screw-tapped apertures, the longitudinal bar, convex at its outer side, interposed mo between the outer edge of' the staff and the In testimony whereof I have hereunto set bight of the strap, and lhe side bars disposed my hand in presence of two subscribing witat the outer sides of the side portions of the I nesses.
strap, a shoe interposed between said body EUGENE RIVET. 5 and the outer edge of the staff, and screws, \Vitnesses:
bearing in the screw-tapped apertures of the BELLE SMITH,
body, for pressing the shoe against the staff. GEO. \V. SPAULDING.
