TO ALL WIIOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, J. V. HENRY NOTT, of New York, in the county of NewYork, and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'in thevConstructionof Checkers; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. A i v v In the annexed drawings, making part of this specicatiomA A represent checkers which are used for playing the game of draughts on a checker-hoard. The peculiarity of these checkers consists in forming a ange, or rim, around their upper edges, and also in bevelling the-periphery of each one, as seen in g.,2 more particularly. The checker is madewider at its top than at its bottom, being in the form of a truncated cone inverted. The object of this is to prevent the checker from running away when it falls from the table or out of the hand. When in this form, it will run around, describing a small circle untill it stops. The rim around the top is to prevent one checker from slipping from the other, in case it is crowned ns a king. '.lhe bottom of one is made just small enough to t snugly within the flange B ofthe other, so that when a king is crowned, the upper checker will not fall off, even though theA lower one be upset. They may be made to fit thus snugly, or so that one will not leave the other unless upset.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by, Letters Patent, is-

1. The flange or rim B, around the upper edge of the checker, as and for the purpose set forth.

2.' The checker made in the form of an inverted truncated cone, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
