GEORGE B. FRALEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO ELIZABETH S. GALBRAITH, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
APPARATUSFOR PRODUClNG MO TIVE POWER FROM LIQUID GAS.
SPECIFICATION-forming part of Letters I atent No; 724,278, dated March 31, 1903.
' Application filed December 26, 19cc. 7 SerialNo, 41,023. mama's.)
To all whom/it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGEB. FRALEna citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia,State of Penn-- sylvania, have invented anew-and useful Im-' provement in Apparatus for Producing Motive Power from Liquid Gas, of which the followingis a specification. My invention consists of an improved construction of an apparatus for producing motive power from liquid'gas, wherein I employ suitable means to gasify the liquid gas and raise the temperature of the same, so that the liability of freezing is prevented, the gas being transformed, so that it can be safely and economically used in a'su'itable motor,where-- from the energy for the motive power is derived.
It further consists of novel details of construction, all as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The figure represents a side elevation, partly in section, of an apparatus for producing motive power from liquid gas embodying my invention, showing especially the regulating device and the means for raising the temperature of the liquid gas employed.
In the drawings, 1 designates a tank for the reception of the liquid gas employed, the outlet-pipe 2 therefrom being controlled by the valve 3, said pipe leading into the casing 4, which forms a hot-water tank. The pipe 2 after entering the hot-water tank takes the form of the coil 5, which I term a gasifyingcoil, which latter after leaving the tank 4-- means of the pipe 13.
14 designates the base which supports the chamber and jacket, said base having located therein the heating device 15, which discharges into the combustion-chamber 16,while aportion of the heat enters the chamber 10 through the ports 17.v
18 designates a plunger which is adapted ably packed by means of the packing 19 and the gland 20.
to reciprocate in the chamber 7 and is suit-V1,
21 designates weightswhioh are removably supported upon the plunger 18,the latter having the arm 22 projecting therefrom, which is provided with the slot 23, through which passes one end of the lever 24,which latter is fulcrumed at the point 25 and pivotally attached to one end of the link 26, the other end of the latter being pivoted to the lever 27 which is fulcrumed at the point 28.
29 designates a link having one end pivot ally attached tothe lever 27, while the other end of said link is connected to the arm 30,
which actuates the valve 31, whereby it will be seen that as the volume in, the chamber 7 varies the plunger 18 will be raised and low;
ered, which movements will automatically control the supply of liquid gas to the gasify;, ing-coil 5, which is in communicationwith eliminates the freezing difficulty and at the 'same time reduces the gas into an economical and safe working pressure, as said liquid gas becomes gasified in its passage from the coil 5, its temperature being simultaneously raised, and by passing it to the regulator, as above described, the latter will act as a superheater, and the plunger or piston 18 causes an even pressure to be maintained at all times. 7 The gas having been reduced to proper rworking 5 temperature is now withdrawn from the in the manner described can be readily utilized in motors of various constructions, and I do not desire to be limited to any particular construction of a motor, and it will also be apparent that the liquid gas can be acted upon in other forms of apparatus than that shown and described herein without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In an apparatus for producing motive power from liquid gas, means for raising the temperature of the liquid gas, a regulating device constructed and arranged to serve as a superheater, and means for conducting said gas after its reduction to a safe working pres sure to any suitable point.
2. In an apparatus for producing motive power from liquid gas, a regulating device through which said gas passes, said regulator constructed and arranged to serve also as a superheater, means actuated by said regulatin device for regulating the flow of said liquid gas, and means for conducting the latter from said pressure-regulator to a suitable point.
3. In an apparatus for producing motive power from liquid gas, a gasifying-coil for enabling the temperature of a liquid gas to be raised, a chamber in which said gasifyingcoil is confined, a regulating device constructed to serve also as a superheater, and means operated by said regulating device for regulating the flow of said liquid gas to said gasifying-coil.
4. In an apparatus for producing motive power from liquid gas, a liquid-gas receptacle, a gasifying device connected therewith, a water-tank and means for maintaining a circulation of water therein, and means for antomatically controlling the supply of gas from said receptacle, said means being controlled by the volume of gas produced by said circulating means.
5. In an apparatus for producing motive power from liquid gas, means for raising the temperature of the liquid gas, means for regulating the supply of said gas to said temperature-raising means automatically, and means for heating said regulating device.

7. In an apparatus for producing motive power from liquid gas, a source of supply for the liquid gas, a tank containing a gasifyingcoil, a pipe from said source of supply to said coil, a valve in said pipe, connection leading from said tank to a heating device, a plunger contained within said heating device, and a pipe leading from said gasifying-coil to the space below said plunger.
8. In an apparatus forproducing motive power from liquid gas, a source of supply for the liquid gas, a tank containing a gasifyingcoil, a pipe from said source of supply to said coil, a valve in said pipe, connections leading from said tank to a heating device, a plunger contained within said heating device, and a pipe leading from said gasifying-coil to the space below said plunger, in combination with actuating mechanism common to said plunger and valve.
