FRANCIS KADE AND KATHARINE WISCONSIN. 1
SHOW- FRANCIS WINTER, OF SHEBOYGAN,
CASE..
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 720,032, dated February 10, 1903.
Application filed February 28, 1898. Serial No. 671,908. (No model.)
T all whom t puny concern: l
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. KADE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sheboygan, in thecounty of Sheboygan and 5 State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Cases; and I do hereby declare that the followingis afull, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in a general construczo tion and combination of parts constituting a knockdown show-case, the same being herein particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and subsequently claimed.
Figure l of the drawings represents a vertical longitudinal section of one form of knockdown show-case in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a horizontal section of the same; Fig. 3, a plan view of the show-case bottom; zo Fig. 4.-, a transverse section of the show-case; Fig. 5, an inside elevation of an end panel of said show-case; Fig. 6, a like View of the front panel, and Fig. 7 a plan View of the show-case top inverted.
Referring by letter to the drawings, A represents a show-case bottom comprising a series of Wooden sections properly joined, and this bottom is provided with an exterior partlydepending molding b around its front and 3o ends. The upper face of the show-case-bottom is rabbeted on its upper surface parallel to said molding and its rear edge to form seats for a two-panel front B, ends C,and rear slides D, the latter overlapping each other in pairs and having groove engagement with guiderails c on said bottom longitudinally of the same.
The top E of the show-case is herein shown in the form of a glazed sash, having grooves 4o for engagement of the `upper edges of the front, ends, and rear slides of said show-case, said front and ends being also shown as glazed sash. TheV top is also provided with guiderails d for the engagement of grooves in the upper edges of the slides, the latter being therein shown in the form of frames having mirror-glass F set therein to refiect the con` tents of the show-case.
Each end C is shown provided with an inside rear jamb G, that has rails e for the engagement of grooves in vertical edges of the slides,'and a rear center post His also provided on opposite sides withvrailsffor the same purpose. The ends C and rear center post H are also provided with upper and lower dowel-pins g, engageable with corresponding recesses 7L in the 'top and bottom of the showcase.
To assemble the show-case, the front B, ends C, slides D, and post H are placed in match-lit position on the bottom A,after which the top E is likewise fitted to the said front, ends, slides, and post. Headed rods I are now run down through apertures 1I in the top and bottom of the show-case, inside the corners of the same, and similar rods are shown parallel with the rear center post and a VerticalV center stripJ of the front, inside the same. The lower ends of the rods are screw threaded, and nutsj are run thereon to clamp the bottom, front, ends, and top of the showcase together.
From the foregoing it will be understood that the front, ends, bottom, top, and back slides aforesaid are separate sections that interlock when the show-case is assembled.
While I have shown one form of show-case, it is to be understood that the same may be indefinitely varied in particulars of design and dimensions. It is practical to employ plateglass without sash for the separable front, ends, and top; but in any event the rods and nuts are employed to hold the several parts in their assembled relation.
A show-case such as I have described may be shipped knockdown at less cost and with greater safety than those that are finished set up, owing to the fact that it occupies less space, and all the parts may be packed to stand on edge, enabling the glass portions of the show-case to ride on edge during transportation, and it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the slides herein shown, as the show-case closure or closures may be hinged or omitted.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
ends of the rods.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand, at Sheboygan, in I 5 the county of Sheboygan and State of Tisconsin, in the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES F. KADE.
