T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CO-NCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN H. GOMER, ofthe city, county, und State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oil-Cans; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descri-ption thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal section of my improved oil-can.
It is well known that when oil-cans are constructed in the usual manner, it is` impossible totell,` when filling How, wasting the oil, and smearing the outside of the can.
My invention has for its object to remedy this defect in the const so constructed that the filler can always see how much oil he is poni-ing in, and thus need never overflow it; and it consists of an oil-can, the entire cover oi' which is removable, being secured in place by screwing itinto the mouth of the cup or body ofthe can, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the body or cup ofthe can, and it is made in4 the ordinary form, that is to say, whatever position it may be set down, it will always roll itself into an erect p osition.
cup A is cut a screw-thread, as shown in the drawing, for the attachment of the cov fiat, as shown, and is elastic, so as to getthe nec ruction of oil-cans, by furnishing'a can in such a form that in Around the mouth of this er. The cover B is made essary spring to eject the oilV from the cup upon the article or spot to be lubricated. Upon a flange, b,- projecting downward from near the edge of this cover,-iscut` a. screwthread, fitting into the screw-thread cut in the mouth of the cup The edge of the covert may be milled, to
enable it to be screwed on and of moreeasily. The tubel) is itmnovably attached to the cover B, in the manner in which the tube is attached to the cap in an ordinary oil-can. i
` I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the cap B with its screwmanner and for the purpose herein specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me, this 9th day-of April, 1866.
. JOHN H. eoMER.
