CLDTHESf-PIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N o. 716,924, dated December v30, 1902 Application led April 25, 1902. Serial No. 104,618. NO model.)
fb all whom, it rncty concern: I
Be it known that I, ALFRED MCKEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beloit, county of Mitchell, and State of Kansas, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Pins, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in clothes-pins, and has for its object to provide a device for pinning clothes to a clothes-line and so constructed that it will accommodate itself to dierent thicknesses and also be practically indestructible.
Vith these ends in view this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, the construction and operation will now be described in detail, referring to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is aperspective View of a clothesline, showing two of my clothes-pins applied thereto; Fig. 2, a perspective view of one of the clothes-pins by itself; Fig. 3, a sectional view of one of the clothes-pins attached to a line.
A represents a piece of wire attached at each end to a pivot B, extending through a cam-block C. This wire extends upward from the pivot B upon each side of the camblock C, and the loop of the wire is bent downward again, so as to form a hook, and this hook-shaped wire is adapted to be hooked over the clothes hung upon the line. The block C is pivoted eccentrically, so that said block will-form a cam, and by rotating the block the clothes will be compressed between the cam-block and the loop A of the Wire hook. There will be sufficient spring in the wire to prevent any tearing of the clothes, but will hold the same securely upon the line, and by forming the cam-block C with surfaces at different distances from the pivotal point the same block can be used to secure any thicknesses of clothes up to a certain limit to the line.
The cam-block C may be made of any suitable material, such as hard wood, Celluloid, paper or wood fiber, dac.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction here shown, as slight moditications could be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful isl. In a device of the character described, a cam-block, a pivot extending through said block, one piece of wire secured at each end to said pivot upon each side of the block, each end of the wire extending upward a distance, and the loop of the wire then bent backward so as to form a hook, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a device of the character described, a heart-shaped cam-block, a pivot extending through the same, a hook secured to said pivot so as to allow the block to rotate, said hook adapted to be hooked over the clothes upon the line, and the cam-block turned so as to confine the clothes between this and the hook over the line, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto afiixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALFRED MCKEE.
