Be it known that I, JAMES F. TINsLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garland, in the county of Dallas and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Distributer or Conveyer Belts; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable' others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. My invention relates to distributer or conveyer belts, and more particularly to that type of belt used in gin-distributers.

The object of the invention is to provide a belt of this character which is strong and simple of construction, extremely durable in use, and yin which the spikes or fingers will be securely fastened to maintain their proper relation and to prevent their being pulled out.

A further object is to brace the belt to prevent its curling or twisting and to strengthen and support it to prevent wear upon the bottom of the distributer-boX.

With the above and other objects in view, which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, said invention consists in certain novel featuresof construction and combination and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l is a perspective view of a portion of my improved belt. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the same, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section.

Referring to the figures of the drawings, l denotes the distributer or conveyer belt, which is of ordinary construction, and 2 denotes the spikes or iingers, which are arranged 'rnrtransverserows at proper intervals along the belt. The said spikes or iingers consist of a vertical portion 3, which is slightly tapered and provided with an offset 4, forming a head, which bears upon the upper surface of the belt. Upon the underside of this offset is formed a stem or rivet 5, which passes through the belt l, the rigid transverse braces or reinforcing-strips 6 on the under side of the belt, and the washer 7 and has its end upset or headed to securely fasten the said parts together and to hold the spikes 3 in an upright position. i The strips 6 have their ends 8 bent around the edge and over upon the top of the belt to prevent the same from curling up at the edges and to strengthen and brace the same. In order to prevent wear upon the bottom of the distributer-box by contact of the strips 6 and rivets 5 thereupon and to strengthen the belt longitudinally, I provide the longitudinal flexible straps 9, of cotton, leather, or other material, upon the under side of the belt and along each edge thereof. The said straps 9 are secured to the belt at proper intervals by the rivets l0. It will be seen that by this construction the spikes or fingers will be rigidly maintained in an upright position on the belt and the liability of their being pulled out entirely overcome, owing to the manner in which they are secured to the rigid strips 6. It will be further noted that by employing the straps 9 the' belt will be greatly strengthened and all Wear upon the bottom of the distributor-box prevented.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought that theconstruction, mode of operation, and advantages of my improved distributer or conveyer belt will be readily apparent without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacriicing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. A distributer or conveyer belt comprising a band, spikes on one side thereof, transverse reinforcing-strips on the opposite side thereof, fastening means for securing said spikes, band and strips together, and longitudinal strengthening-straps on one side of said band, substantially as set forth.

2.
