JAMES THOMAS MILLER, OF ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.
PACKAGE FOR CARBON OR OTHER THIN PAPER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 704,558, dated July 15, 1902.
Application filed March 17, 1902. Serial No. 98,482. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMEs THOMAS MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing, at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Packages for Carbon or other Thin Paper, of which the following is a full and complete specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved box or casing for tissue-paper,either coated or uncoated, and particularly for packing, storing, holding, and conveying or shipping carbon or other thin paper.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separateparts of my improvement are designated by the same reference characters in each of the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved box or casing and showing the hinged cover with which the same is provided thrown backwardly or open; Fig. 2,a perspective View of an inside paperholder which I employ and a number of which in practice are placed .in the box or casing, and Fig. 3 a longituan oblong rectangular'box or casing a, which is preferably composed of pasteboard, cardboard, or other suitable material and which is provided with a top 6, consisting of two parts, one of which is hinged to the other centrally of the box or casing to form a cover a, and in Fig. 1 this cover is shown open, While in Fig.3 it is shown closed. WVithin the box or casing a I employ a plurality of paper-holders cl, each of which consists of a sheet of comparatively stiif paper, one end of which is folded over to form a flap e, and in practice in packing fine tissue-paper, such as carbon-paper or other paper of this class, I place a plurality of the tissue or carbon sheets f on each of the holders d, as shown in Fig. 2, and these holders are placed in the box or casing, as shown in Fig. 3. In Fig. 8 I have only shown one tissue-sheet in the holder (1 within the box a, the object being to not confuse this figure of the drawings;
but it will be understood that any desired number of said sheets may be placed on or in each of said holders, and in practice I prefer to place a dozen of said sheets on or in each of said holders. In practice I place on the flaps e of the holders d the description of the character of the paper held thereby or the quality thereof many other desired information, and all that is necessary in order to examine the various holders or the contents thereof is to raise the hinged part of the lid or cover of the box, after which the separate holders or the ends thereof may be successively raised and any of the said holders may be removed from the box. It will also be apparent that the box or casing may be made to contain any desired number of the holders d, and by this means I provide a convenient, safe, and practical means for packing, shipping, or storing tissue-paper of various kinds and classes.
I am aware-that a box or case provided with a hinge-cover and a plurality of leaves or partitions hinged at one end to the box or case and provided at the opposite end witha flap has heretofore been used as a bill-file, but with my improvement the holders (1 are removable and may be taken out at'any time and serve as a package or holder to keep the sheets of tissue-paper in proper form under all conditions, and the said holders 01 may thusbe usedeither inthe'box or case or out of it for the purpose specified.
Havingthus fully described. my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A package for carbon or other thin paper, said package comprising a box having a cover one end of which is hinged to the other end thereof, and a plurality of removable papersheet holders placed therein, each of which consists of a sheet of stiff paper folded upwardly and backwardly thereof at one end to form a flap, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing witnesses, this 31st day of January, 1902.
JAMES THOMAS MILLER.
