WITNESSES //v VENTOI? Frank Llrre By 6%7 I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK L. FERRE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LINE-GRIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters I atent No. 702,191, dated June 10, 1902.
Application filed October 1, 1901. Serial No. 77,200. (NomodeL) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK L. FERRE, a citi zen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Line-Grip, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in gripping or coupling devices for lines or ropes, particularly clothes-lines running over pulleys attached to houses, poles, or the like; and the object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device for this purpose by means of which the slack of the line may be readily taken up and held without the trouble and annoyance of tying the ends of the line together.
I will describea line-grip embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had tothe accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a line-grip embodying my invention, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof.
The line-grip comprises a plate-like body portion 1 of any suitable material, having near one end an opening 2, through which one end of the line 3 isdesigned to pass and to be engaged at the under side, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Near the other end the body portion is provided with an opening 4, through which the other end of the line is designed to 3 5 be drawn. Movable in axial line with the opening 4 is a clamping device consisting of a screw 5, which operates in a nut 6, supported from the body portion by means of divergent plates 7. At the clamping end the screw 5 is provided with a head 8 to engage against the rope.
The operation of the device is quite obviousthat is, by drawing the rope through the opening 4 the slack may be taken up, and then by forcing the clamping device against the rope orline it will be securely held, of course, making it unnecessary to knot the ends of the rope together.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 7 l A line-grip, comprising a plate-like body portion having openings near its ends, a nut supported in axial line with one of said openings, a clamping-screw operating in said nut, and a head on the clamping end of said screw, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK L. FERRE.
