UNrrn STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARTHA O. TEEL, OF THE DALLES, OREGON.
DRAWER GUARD OR SUPPORT.
SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 701,232, dated May 27, 1902.
Application filed November 22,1901. Serial No. 83,325. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, MARTHA O. TEEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at The Dalles, in the county of WVasco and State of Oregon, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drawer Guards or Supports, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to drawer guards or supports; and the object thereof is to provide a simple, durable, and efficient device which may be readily applied to the support of an ordinary sliding drawer, whereby the outward movement of said drawer will be limited.
A further object is to provide means for guiding the drawer in its grooves and to prevent binding of the same.
The peculiar manner of accomplishing the desired result will be described hereinafter, and the novel construction will be clearly understood by reference to the drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the drawer and support, showing my invention applied, the drawer being closed. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the drawer in its open position. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the two drawer-guides and stops; and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary perspective view of a portion of the drawer, showing the drawerguide openings.
The reference-numeral 1 designates a support or table, on the under side of which are two parallel guides 2, provided with grooves in which are slidably secured a drawer 3. Positioned intermediate the cleats, running parallel therewith, are a plurality of springactuated guides 4 and 5, adapted to assist the cleats in providing an efficient means for preventing the binding of the drawer in the groove. These guides are also constructed so that they constitute stops which limit the movement of the drawer, whereby it may not become detached from engagement with the guiding-cleat. In actual practice I prefer to employ two of these guides, which extend through cut-out portions 6 in the rear ends of the drawer; but either one or any number may be employed, if found desirable. Each guide and stop comprises a single piece of spring-wire, which is bent intermediate its ends to form two parallel arms 7 and 8. Each arm is formed intermediate its ends with a number of convolutes 9, whereby the arms are provided with sufficient spring to make them bind against the edge of the drawer at any point between the closed position and the open position. The rear extremities of the arms are bent up to form tines 10 and 11, which engage the under side of the drawersupport, whereby they are securely fastened thereto. The forward extremities of the arms are connected by a kink or bend 12, which is bent at right angles to said arms, so as to form an engaging lip, which is adapted to come in contact with the back wall of the drawer adjacent the cut-out portion, whereby the outward movement of said drawer is limited.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a cheap, durable, and efficient device of the character described and one which will readily perform the service for which itis intended.
I claim- 1. A guide and stop for drawers comprisinga strand of wire bent intermediate its ends to form two parallel arms, tines on the free end of said arms and adapted to engage the drawer-support and a bend in the other ends of the arms which is adapted to limit the outward movement of the drawer.
2. In a drawer guide and stop, the combination with a support, and a sliding drawer secured thereto, of a pair of parallel arms secured to the support and extending through the drawer, the free ends of said arms being bent at right angles to the arms proper, whereby said ends are adapted to engage the drawer to limit the outward movement thereof.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTHA O. TEEL.
