JAMES F. LATIMER, 0F DETROIT, MIGHICrAII, ASSIGNOR T() E-LIZA ELLSWORTH.
Letters .Patent No. I69,821, dated October 15, 1867 fitti Stimuli trfmr tu it that mints what mit uniting plut of its same.
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JAMES F. LATIMER, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne, in the State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Method of Accumulating Power; and I do declare that the following is an accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a. part of this specification.
The dotted lines show those parts that are hidden from View in thc machine in a perspective view.
I make a proper frame, A A, firmly secured to the base B, upon which I place pillow-blocks C C. I use a shaft, D, the ends of which run on the inner edges of the rim ofthe wheels E E, which revolve with the shaft D, and lessen the friction. Ufpon the shaft D is hung a suiiieient balance-wheel, S. Upon the shaft D are placed two or more slotted segments F F, (slots Ashown at H H,) which are suspended, by adjustable rods K K K K, from theeccentric levers I'I, which hang upon shaft L L. These slotted segments F F are made to work to the right and left alternately, by means of the lever R acting upon the rocker N, which is attached to the base O by the pivot P. The rocker N is connected with the eccentric levers I I by thc rods M M. The left-hand rods K K are shorter than the right-hand rods K K, so that the slotted segments F F, as they are moved from right to left and from left to right, -the tops and bottoms of the slots H H are alternately made to bear upon the top and bottom of theshaftD, and communicate motion thereto. By this means great velocity is attained and power acquired, which may be used in all cases where an intermittent power is required.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination andY arrangement of the rods M M, the rocker N, the lcverR, the base O, and the pivot P, arranged substantially as described, for the purpose designed.
2. The combination` and arrangement of the frame A A, the base B, the pillow-blocks C C, the shaft D, the wheels E E, the slotted segments F F, the'ecceutric levers I I, the rods K K K K, the shaft L L, the rods M M, the rocker N, the base O, the pivot P, the lever R, and the balance-wheel S, arranged substantially as described and for the purpose designed.
Detroit, June 17, 1867.
