ENOS L. MOORE, OF PORTSMOUTH, OHIO.
BUILDING-BLOCK FOR FLUES.'
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 695,822, dated March 18, 1902. Application filed August 27, 1901. Serial No. 73,465. (No model.)
To all whom, it' may concern:
Be it known that I, ENOS L. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portsmouth, in the county Of Scioto and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Building-Blocks for Flues, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to building-blocks; and the object of the same is to make a block of a shape particularly adapted for the construction of checker-work for flues in hotblast stoves and furnaces, to make the joints therein strong and durable and not liable to be disturbed by heat. This object and these advantages are attained by the novel construction described in this specification and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in Which- Figure 1 is an elevation of a fragment of checker-work constructed of my blocks. Fig. 2 is a perspective of my preferred form of block. Fig. 3 is a modified form. Fig. 4 is a second modied form. Fig. 5 shows the manner of forming the same joints by the use of the modified forms.
Like numerals of reference designate like vparts in the different views of the drawings.
The numeral l designates one of my blocks of the preferred form. One end 2 of the block is beveled symmetrically on two sides at 3 to a wedge-shapedpoint 4. The other end is beveled on two sides at 5 to a blunt or frustrated point 6.
The blocks 1 are employed in constructing flues for furnaces, and for that purpose are put together as shown in Fig. l. The joints 6 are formed by using four blocks 1 and abutting two sharp points and two blunt points.
The modified forms 8 and 9 (illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4, respectively) are used in forming a flue with joints 10, as shown in Fig. 5.
I find that lues formed in this manner are very strong and are not liable to be injured by heat.
I do not wish to be limited as to details of construction, as these may be modified in many particulars without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A building-block having afrustrated threesided point on one end andatwo-sided wedgeshaped point on its opposite end, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ENOS L. MOORE.
