Be it known that I, JOSEPH S. SHERER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of lilinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspender-Ends, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to novel improvements in suspenders, and has particular ref- [0 erence to the means for connecting the end with the web. 7

One object of the invention is to provide a strong and permanent connection between the end and the cast-off and to greatly increase the strength of the cast-off by embodying therewith a smooth and lasting bearing for the end.

Another object is to facilitate the operation of the cast-oft and enable the disconnection of the end and drawers-support from the web easily and at the same time and while they remain fastened to the trousers and drawers.

With these and other ends in View the invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and illustated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front viewcof a portion of a suspender embodyingthe invention. 'Fig. 2 is asimilar view showing the cast-oil open. Fig. 3 is a sectional View. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the metal bearing.

Referring to the drawings, in which like nunierals of reference denote corresponding parts in the several figures, designates the web, which carries a double loop 11 ofsuitable character. The suspender-end 12 is connected with the web by the cast-0d 13, and this cast-oif consists, preferably, of a leather mounting 14, having one part 15 folded upon itself to form a loop 16 and its other part made in the form of a flap 17, which passes through the double loop 11 and is fastened to the looped end. Inside of the loop formed by the mounting I arrange a'l0op-bearing 18, which consists of a metal plate bent upon itself to form a loop of suitable character to receive the intermediate part of the suspender-end 12, which works easily in the loop to conform with the movement of the wearer. The back plate 23 of the metal loop is straight throughout-its length, and the upper part 21 of the front plate is arranged parallel with and adjacent to the back plate; but the lower part 25 is bulged to form the loop, whereby 'the looped plate may be snugly fitted in the fastening device, which is preferably of the character of a glove-fastening, the head member 19 beingpcar ried by the fiap 17 and the shank member 20 being carried by the looped part of the cast-off. This shank member is provided with a base 20 and passes through the drawers-support 21, the looped part of the cast-off, and the ends of the metal loop, which are provided with openings 22 for this purpose, and fastens these parts securely together, whereby the drawers-support and the end are permanently connected with the castoff and the end is provided with asmooth and non -wearing bearing therein. The shank member 20 is held on the side opposite the a base 20 by a washer 22or in some other suitable inanner. The cast-off is used in'the ordinary manner to detach or connect the end with the 'web, the flap 17 carrying the fastening-head 19 and being arrangedto slip easily through the loop 11 for this purpose.

The metal loop is concealed within the mounting on the cast-0E and entirely protected thereby, and as the endis arranged to operate in this metal loop a permanent connection between the end and the cast-off is thereby efiected. The metal loop constitutes a 4 smooth and, to all intents and purposes, a nonwearing bearing for the end, which greatly increases the strength of the cast-off and prevents the breaking of the cast-off at the loop thereof, due to strains and constant working of the end therein.

By detachably connecting the cast-0ft with the web in the manner shown and described I am able permanently connect the drawerssupport and the Suspender-end with the castotf without in any way interfering with the cast-off operating in the usual manner and without necessitating the unfastening of the drawers-support, thereby enhancing the usefulness of a castotf on suspenders without changing its manner of operation or complicating its construction.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. The combination with the web of a suspender and a loop carried thereby, of a castoff detachably connected therewith and comprising a mounting having its lower part looped and its upper part formed into a flap to pass through the loop on the web and be folded on and fastened to the looped part of the mounting, a plate bent to form a loop and arranged within the loop of the mounting, a fastening device passing through the mounting and both ends of said plate to secure said parts together and close the loops, and a suspender-end operatingin theloops of said plate and mounting.

2. The combination with the web of a suspender and a loop carried thereby, of a castofl detachably connected therewith and comprising a mounting having its lower part looped and its upper part made in the form of a flap to engage the loop on the web, a metal plate bent to form a loop and arranged in the loop of the mounting with its ends extending upward, said looped plate having a straight back and a bulged front to form the loop, a device passing through the mounting and both ends'of the plate and securingthe parts together and closing the loops, at Suspender-end operating in the loops of'said plate and mounting and permanently secured therein, and a fastening device for securing the flap to the looped part of the mounting.

3. The combination with the web of a suspender, of a loop carried by said web, a castoff comprising a mounting having its lower part looped, a looped metal plate arranged in the loop of the mounting the upper part of the mounting being formed into a flap to pass through the loop on the web and be folded on the looped part of the mounting, a drawerssupport, and a fastening device comprising a head member carried by the flap and a shank member passing through the drawers-s11 pport, the looped part of the mounting and the ends of the metal loop therein, and a suspenderend operating in said metal loop and perma' nently connected Wit-h the cast-off, substantially as described.
