UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK N. YOUNG, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
PORTABLE DISPLAY-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 690,341, dated December 31, 1.901. Application tiled February 11, 1901. Serial No. 46,920. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK N. YOUNG,a citi- 'zen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Display-Cases for Jewelry, &c., of which the following is a specication.
The object of my invention is to provide a portable display-case that may be folded for convenient transportation and in which the articles displayed are readily accessible; and it consists of a display-case hinged or pivoted to a base-piece and having a door at its rearward side, hinged at its lower edge and having a brace between the case and the basepiece, whereby the case is held in an inclined position, as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings,- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the improved display-case. Fig. 2 represents a front view. Fig. 3 represents a vertical section taken in the line 3 3 of Fig. 2'. Fig. 4 represents a vertical section showing the case with the door opened to its horizontal position. Fig. 5 represents a side view showing the case in its folded condition for transportation.
In the drawings, A represents a base-piece to which the display-case B is pivoted by means of the ears O O, which are secured to the said base-piece, the said case B being provided with a glass front D and with a rear door E, tothe inner side of which the objects to be exhibited are secured, and I prefer to provide the inner side of the door E with a cushion F, of suitable material covered with silk or satin, to which the articles to be eX- hibited may be readily attached'. The door E is hinged at its lower edge a to the case B, and the case B is held in the required backwardly-inclined position by means of the folding braces G, which are pivoted to the basepiece A at the points c c andhook into the eyes I-I H at the sides of the case, and if it is desired to remove an article from the displaydoor E then by unlocking the door at its upper edge e it may be turned down to its horiz'ontal position, as shown in Fig, 4, in which position the entire display-surface of the door will be readily accessible, and by releasing the braces G, which serve to hold the case in its inclined position, the several connected parts may be folded together for convenient transportation, as shown in Fig. 5.
I claim as my invention@- The combination of a display-case having a glass front, and provided with a hinged door at its rear side adapted for the attachment thereto of the articles to be displayed, with a base-piece hinged to the lower edge of the case, so as to fold against the back of the door, and the folding brace extending between the hinged base-piece and the frame of the display-case, whereby the display-case may be either folded backwardly upon the basepiece, or held in a backwardly-inclined position, substantially as described.
