clear, and exact description thereof, whiehfwill enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, refer-` ence being' had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification. i i

This invention relates to a hernia truss which is so arranged that it can be applied for ruptures on seither s de, or even for double ruptures, and can be adjusted on bodies of different size. The protrusion of any of the contents of the abdomen will be prevented with complete security by the use of this truss, und it wll,i

without causing pain or inconvenience tothe patient, lrnake eiectual and equal` pressure on the neck of the hernial sac, and on the ring or external opening of thehernia. It cannot slip out of its right position in the varying motions and positions of the body. i

The invention consists in the use of a pad of novelshape, being like two common pads pivoted in the centre to a link which is att ached to the spring, so that it may be turned freely on its pivot, and be raised or lowered 1 to any desired position by means of the link.

The invention also consists in the manner of buttoning the strap to th pad, so that not only the spring,

but also the pad, is firmly secured and held in position. p .p

The invention further consists in the manner of constructing and attaching the thigh-strap, so thatby its use the pad is also firmly held and prevented from slipping. Provision is madethat thethigh-strap can be well secured to the pad while the same is in any ppsition, and the said strap is furthermore made elastic, so as to adapt itself to any size of body. The spring, as well as the thigh-strap, is covered with Indiairubber in place of leather. The rubber not being destroyed by moisture from perspiratiomwill always remain soft, and can 'be easily cleaned. In the annexed drawing iny invention is illustrated-fd l Figure 1 being a perspective view of my improved truss, showing it applied to the` body.

A represents the spring, which is of common construction. To its outer end ishinged or pivoted a short rod or bar, B, which is connected to the pad C by a pivot, a. The pad C is made with two wings, b and b', the pivot a being in the centre between the wings, either wing being-large enough to be applied to a simple rupture. Bythis arramg'eznent the truss can be used on either side, and the pad can be raised or lowered by means of the link B, and thus the pad can be applied to any hernia, wherever it may be situated.` By means of the' two wings of the pad this truss may also be applied to double ruptures. The strap D which surrounds the spring` A is made of India rubber, as well as the front part of the thigh-strap E, for the purposes aforesaid. The latter arrangement is best understood by referring to the red lines in-.irked in iig. 1. 'The thighsstrap E is attached, by means of e. buckle,

or otherwise, to e. loop or ringhf, which slides on the strap D, as shown in fig. 2. i The upperend, g, of the strap E; is made oi' elastic 1natcrial,`so that the saine will always be held tight on the body. Near each end ofthe pad C is arranged, on its outside, a metal or other loop, 7e', as shownin the drawings. Throughthat loop, which is the lowest, is passed the front end of the strap E, and the lutter is then buttoncd to the knob a, as shown in iig. 1. By this arrangement, in conjunction with the use of the strap e, the pad is always firmly retained in the correct position, while the freeinetion of the body is not impaired. In the drawing-the pad is shown'as to be applied to theu'ight side of the wearer. When to be applied to the left side, the positin of the spring A. is. reversed, and the pad tu'rned; so as to cover the'desired spot. The lo'opj` must be turned on the strap` A, :so as to also reverse the position of' the thigh-strap.
