SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 687,316, dated November 26, 1901.

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD I. KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pontiac, in the county of Livingston, State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Dental Blowpipe and Lamp, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a dental blowpi pe and lamp; and the objects of the same are to provide a simple and effective device of this class wherein a llame can be obtained sufficiently large and hot for all dental laboratorywork-such as bridge,crown,and plate worka device of this class devoid of a generator, but operating to cause an alcohol-spray to pass through an alcohol-wick iiame,and hence does not become extinguished when the operation of the bellows ceases,but is always ready for use when ignited, and a device of this class which will not carbonize the work, will not explode, and capable of being used as a lamp alone for laboratory and operating-room.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a blowpipe and lamp embodying the features of the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section of the same. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of a nozzle attachment.

Similar letters of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

The letter c designates a containing-body of suitable capacity having a boss kin the top near the periphery, said boss being formed with a screw-threaded opening, in which a cap b is removably fitted. The cap h has a wick-tube c extending therethrough and rising above the same, and in said tube a suitable wick d is adapted to be fitted, as shown by Fig. l, the wick projecting down into the body c for obvious reasons. The top of the body is also provided with a permanently-secured cap j, having an air-tube t' projecting therethrough, and in the center of said cap j the screw-threaded extremity of an air and vtransportation and storage.

The upper end of the tube gis curved, and on said curved end is removably lifted a nozzle c, the curved end of the tube g being continued intoan injector-tip m, over which said nozzle is fitted, the nozzle forming a chamber around the tip and has a connecting-tubef entering the same at a right angle thereto, said tube f extending rearwardly from the nozzle and having a rubber pipe h or the like fitted thereover and running from a bellows or other analogous pressure device.

The wick d is ignited and the flame will constantly remain as long as desired, independently of cessation of operation of the blowing devices, and can thus be used for ordinary lighting or other purposes during the periods of rest of the blowpipe accessories. When the bellows is operated and pressure conveyed through the pipe h to the nozzle, a suction is set up in the latter and alcohol and air are drawn through the tube g and tip m and commingled and driven through the adjacent flame. The tip is reduced toward its free end to reduce and render effective the spray ejected and forced through the llame. The tube g may be adjusted vertically at any time in relation to the iiame to obtain the best or most desirable results, and when the blowpipe is not in use the nozzle and tube g may be turned aside. Furthermore, the nozzie can be easily removed for cleansing the same and the tip m, and said tube and wicktube can be detached from the body to reduce the bulk of the apparatus for convenience in The pipe h is also readily detachable from the connectingtube f. f

Having thus described the invention, wha is claimed as new is- A dental lamp and blowpipe comprising a body having a wick-tube for supporting a wick, a cap with au air-tube extending therethrough, a spray-tube with a lower screwthreaded extremity adjustably and removably mounted in said cap and having an upper reduced tip end forming an outlet therefor, the upper reduced tip end of said tube being curved, and a nozzle removably applied over said tip end of the spray-tube andhaving a connecting-tube attached to the same and name to this specification in presence of two disposed at an angle thereto, the tip end of subscribing witnesses. the spraytube carrying the nozzle being adapted to be turned over the upper` eXtreln- RICHARD I' KING' 5 ity of the wick-tube and also vertically ad- Witnesses:
