To (all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ELIAS I-I. DUANE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tonica, in the county of Lasalle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Hinge, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a hinge construction for hanging windows, outside blinds, screen-frames, and the like; and the object of the same is to provide simple and efiective means for hanging the same from the upper end, so that the window-frame or that which corresponds to a sash, as well as a blind or the like, may be easily attached or detached and moved into open or closed position to accommodate different operations, such as shading, cleaning, painting, or repairing, and also to provide an effective form of loclncoactin g with the hinge.

. The invention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, which will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of a portion of an outside blind and frame, showing the improved hinge and lock applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section through a portion of the blind-frame and blind and the one hinge and locking device therefor. Fig. 3 is a detail elevation of the hanging member of the hinge.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views.

The numeral 1 designates a hanging blind, which is shown in part, and 2 the frame therefor, and as this is only one of the many applications of the device it will be understood that it can be applied to a window sash, screen, or the like and have the same general advantages and mode of operation. In the application of the improved construction hangers 3 are secured to the upper end of the blind near opposite sides and have upwardly-projecting reduced portions, having upper out= wardly-curved terminals 4 and enlarged openings 5 to receive different sizes of cooperating devices, which will now be described. The hangers 3 are removably applied over the bolts or rods 6, and when the blind or other device carrying the hangers is closed the curved terminals 4 have their outer edges bear firmly against the vertical members, as shown by Fig. 2, to prevent movement of the blind or window-sash when closed and to cause the parts to closely bear against each The blind or sash is free to be raised or lowered on the bolts or rods and by means of the vertical members 8 and terminals 9 of the hooks 7 the window or sash will be prevented from becoming accidentally disengaged from the rods or bolts. When it is desired to disengage the blind or sash from the bolts or rods 6, it is lifted horizontally until the openings 5 of the hangers clear the vertical members 8 of the hooks 7 and then turned at a proper angle to be drawn off the termi nals 9 of said hooks. The openings 5 in the hangers 3 will be made sufficiently large to permit an easy application and detachment of the window sash or blind and also to be applicable to different sizes of bolts or rods 6, the proportions and sizes of the parts set forth being varied in accordance with theweight of the blind or sash.

In vertical alinement with and above each rod or bolt 6 is a turn-button 10, pivotally mounted at its upper end and having a lower inclined flanged end 11, the latter having an inclination inwardly and upwardly. When the buttons are turned downwardly, as shown by Figs. 1 and 2, the lower ends thereof bear firmly on the upper edges of the curved terminals 40f the hangers 5 and prevent the said hangers from moving on the bolts or rods 6, and thereby a simple and effective lock is provided for the blind or sash, which will prevent movement of the hung devices.

The improved device as an entirety can be cheaply manufactured and sold at a comparatively small cost and produces an advantageous means of hanging blinds, windows, and the like.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- The combination with a movable device and a frame therefor, of apertured hangers secured to the upper end of said movable device, bolts or rods for swinging and removable engagement by the said hangers, and turnbuttons above the said bolts or rods having 5 lower ends to bear on the upper ends of the hangers;
