ATOMIZER.
SPEGIFIOATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 678,242, dated July 9, 1901.

Be it known that LHERMANN GOLTERMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing in East Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Atomizers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to atomizers in which perfumery,,oils, or medicated or other liquids are atomized and discharged in a fine spray for medicinal or other purposes in an effective and reliable manner; and the invention consists of an atomizer comprising a closed vessel containing the liquid to be atomized, an air-tube passing through the cap of the vessel, means for supplying air under pressure to said vessel and air-tube, a suctiontube located in saidair-tube and having a contracted outer end, and a sheet-metal cap applied to said end and forming an annular space between the same and said cap, the airtube having its outer end contracted into contact with said cap and said cap being provided with a small discharge-perforation in line with the bore of the suction-tube and with perforations connecting the annular space between the air and suction tubes with that within the cap, as fully described hereinafter and finally claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of myimproved atomizer. Fig. 2 is a vertical central section of a portion of the same drawn on a larger scale. Fig. 3 is a detail vertical longitudinal section of the nozzle of the atomizer drawn on a still larger scale. Fig. 4: is a screw-cap for covering the nozzle, and Figs. 5 and 6 are vertical transverse sections on lines 5 5 and 6 6, Fig. 4.

Referring to the drawings, A represents a glass or other suitable vessel, in which the medicinal or other liquid to be atomized is Y placed. The mouth of the vessel is hermetically closed by means of a cap B. Through the cap B passes anair-tube C, which is connected by a flexible tube D with the bulb E, by which air under pressure is supplied to the air-tube and interior of the vessel. The
inner end of the air-tube is provided with openings 0 for permitting the escape of the air supplied by the bulb E. Through the air-tube 0 passes a suction-tube F, which extends at its inner end to the lower part of the vessel A, while the outer end is contracted in size and provided between the contracted end portion a and body of the tube with a collar a of intermediate size. A cap G, preferably of aluminium, is secured over the end a, by being applied to the collar a and forms an annular space between said cap G and the end ct. The cap Gis provided with two or more perforations 1), connecting the annular space between the air and suction tubes with the annular space within the cap G and with a perforation Zi'inline with the bore of the suction-tube. The air-tube is contracted at its outer end at a point beyond the perforations 1) into contact with the cap G, thereby not only causing the air to pass through said perforations, but assisting materially in holding the cap Gin position. The outer end of the air-tube is provided which is preferably made of hard rubber and which is provided with a central perforation c in line with the perforation b,'said cap serving for finishing the end of the air-tube and retaining the sheet-metal cap Gin position on the collar a, as shown. The exterior cap 0' may, however, be dispensed with, if deare threaded, so as to be firmly connected, and the screw-thread at the outer end of the air-tube is dispensed with and the same finishedby rounding off.

My improved atomizer is operated in the \enabled to attack the liquid stream from all g and mix with and atomize the liquid, my im proved atomizer has the advantage that it is adapted for spraying, in addition to easilyflowing liquids, such as certain medicinal solutions and perfumery, poorly-flowing liquids, such as oils and heavy medicinal solutions, &c., so that the atomizer can be used with effect for many applications for which atomizers of the ordinary construction are unsuited. The atomizer is not easily clogged and the metallic cap G is not liable to split or break, as are rubber caps. It forms a protection to the outer cap 0', preventing the liquid from coming in contact therewith except at the bore, and strengthens and renders the end of the atomizer very durable under hard usage.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The combination of a closed vessel con-- contracted into contact with said cap, and said cap being provided with a small discharge-perforation in line with the bore of the suction-tube, and with perforations connecting the annular space between the air and a collar between the same and the body of the tube, a sheet-metal cap applied to said collar and forming an annular space between :the outer end of the suction-tube and said I sheet-metal cap, the air-tube having its outer end contracted into contact with said cap,
and said cap being provided with a small dis charge-perforation in line with the bore of the suction-tube, and with perforations connecting the annular space between the air and suction tubes with that within the sheetmetal cap, and an exterior cap screwed over the outer end of the air-tube and sheet-metal cap and retaining the latter on said collar,
' said exterior cap being provided with a discharge-perforation in line with the discharge- 1 perforation of the sheet-metal cap, substantially asset forth.
