Be itknown that I, FLORENCE ADELE BAR- NETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Toms River, in the county of Ocean and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thread- Guides for Sewing-Machines, of Which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to thread-guide attachments for sewing-machines; and its primary object is to provide a simple and inexpensive device of this character which will eifectually prevent the thread from becoming loose or tangled by feeding off the spool too freely and to cause the thread to be properly guided in its travel toward the needle without regard to the amount of thread upon the spool or whether the thread is being unwound from the top, bottom, or center of the spool.

Further objects of the invention are to provide a thread-guide attachment which may be readily placed in position or removed and to provide convenient means for threading the device.

The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter and defined in the appended claim,in connection with the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a spool of thread with my improvew Inent applied thereto, a portion of a sewingmachine being indicated by dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a View in perspective of the thread-guide detached, and Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blank from which the support or holder of the device is constructed.

The referencenumeral 1 designates the usual, rod or spindle projecting from a sew- In connection with the wire 3 I employ a I supporting device comprising a flat ring 7, adapted to fit over the spindle 1 and rest upon the spool, and a vertical sleeve 8, projecting from the ring at one side thereof. I preferably form the ring and sleeve from a single metal blank, (shown in Fig. 3,) the wing 9 of said blank being bent to a vertical position and formed into tubular form. The ring 7 is formed with a notch or recess 10, through which the wire 3 passes.

The utility of the invention will be apparent from the foregoing description in connection with the drawings, and it will be observed that the thread may be quickly slipped into position within the loop 5 and over the guard 6.

I claim- A thread-guide attachment for sewing-machines, comprising a Wire adapted to extend down within a spool, and bent to form a down wardly extending arm terminating in a thread-loop, in combination with a support consisting of a ring adapted to fit over the spool-spindle of the machine, and formed with a notch to receive the wire, and a wing which is turned upward and bent to tubular form.
