AIR-
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters GUN.
Patent No. 670,760, dated March 26, 1901.
Application filed January 23,1901. Serial No. 44,417. @lo model.)
10 all whom if; may con/cern:
Beit known that I, FREDERICK F. BENNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Plymouth, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Guns, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in air-guns; and the objectof the invention is to simplify the connection of the triggerguard tothe barrel, producing a cheaper and stronger construction than that heretofore used, and also to provide an improved manner of securing the rear sight in position.
To this end the invention comprises a metallic band encircling the rear end of the barrel, to which band the trigger-guard is riveted. It also includes a sheet-metal band encircling the barrel and a rear sight carried by said band, and finally it includes the details of construction hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a side elevation. Fig. 2 is a rear end view of the barrel, the stock being removed. Figs. 3 and 4: are detail views.
In the drawings,A represents the barrel, and B the stock, of an ordinary air-gun.
The trigger-guard is designated by the letter C, and upon this guard the stock is pivoted at D in the usual manner.
In order to secure the trigger-guard to the barrel in a simple and effective manner I provide a sheet-metal band E, which completely encircles the rear end of the barrel, as shown, and is provided with two parallel eX- tensions or Wings e e, which rest upon opposite sides of the trigger-guard and are securely affixed thereto by riveting or the like. It will thus be seen that when the two wings are secured firmly to the trigger-guard the portion of the band encircling the barrel is clamped rmly thereon, requiring very little, if any, soldering, and avoiding any danger of breakage by loosening of solder, as is frequently the case where a casting is soldered directly to the under side of the barrel.
The trigger F is pivoted in a recess in the trigger-guard upon a pin f extending between the two wings.
In order to provide a simple and effective method of securing the rear sight, I slit the upper portion of the band E, as indicated at e' e', before it is applied to the gun and has been applied to the barrel the sight H, which has a wedge-shaped foot It, may be applied by simply driving said wedge-shaped foot under' said struck-up portion, where it assist in causing the barrel to be firmly held. Having thus described my invention, what I claim is l. In an air-gun the combination with the said trigger-guard, of a band encircling said barrel and secured to said guard, substantially as described.
2. In combination, the barrel, a band of barreland having parallel wings, and a trigger-guard secured between said wings, substantially as described.
3. In combination the barrel, a sheet-metal in parallel wings or flanges, a trigger-guard secured between said flanges, and a trigger pivotedupon a pin extending between said flanges, substantially as described.
sheet metal encircling said barrel, and a sight having an angular foot inserted under said band, substantially as described.
5. In combination with a gun-barrel, a
a sight having a wedge-shaped foot of sheet metal driven under said band, substantially as described.
6. In combination with a gun-barrel a band ing a slot, and a sight having a wedge-shaped foot inserted through said slot and driven under said band, substantially as described.
7. In combination with a gun-barrel, a band hating in parallel plates or wings, a triggerguard secured between said wings, and a rear sight having a wedge-shaped foot driven between said band and barrel and serving both parts more securely together, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK F. BENNETT.
