FARM FENCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 668,271, dated February 19, 1901.
' Application filed November 8, 1900. Serial No. 35,830. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. TEAGUE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ector, in the county of Fannin and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Farm-Fences; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to farm-fences.
One object of the invention is to provide a novel form of fence comprising in its construction barbed fence-wires and a smooth guard-Wire, which latter is located Within the inclosure formed by the fence-wires and is designed to prevent stock from injury by coming in contact with the barbed wire.
A further object of the invention is to provide a fence of this character which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view of a fence-section embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail View of one of the posts, showing a support for the smooth wire and the manner of connecting the latter thereto. Fig. 4 is a front view of the same. Fig. 5 is a detail view of the lower end of the post, and Fig. 6 is a similar View of the footpiece or anchor thereof.
Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes the post of a section of the fence, and 2 the barbed fence-wires, which. are secured thereto by staples 3. The post is preferably made of an gleiron and is provided at its lower end with ears 4, which are adapted to fit in corresponding apertures 5 of a footpiece or anchor 6 and be upset or bent to prevent disengagement therefrom.
7 denotes a smooth wire, and 8 denotes the smooth-wire support. The support is preferably U-shaped and has its ends terminating in angular feet 9, which have a firm hearing against the inner side of the fence-post and are secured in place by two of the staples 3 used for securing the wires 2 to said post. A staple 10 is used for securing the smooth wire 7 to the bight of the U-shaped support. The construction is a strong and durable one owing to the shape of the support, thus permitting the wire 7 to withstand great pressure by the stock, which will be guarded by said wire against inj ury from coming in contact with the fence-Wires 2.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction, operation, and advantages of my invention will be readily understood without requiring an extended explanation. The device is exceedingly useful for the purpose for which it is designed and may be placed upon the market at a comparatively small cost.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction maybe resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a farm-fence, the combination, with an angle-iron fence-post, of a U-shaped support arranged at the inner side of the fence-post and provided with angular feet, fence-wires, and two fasteners, each fastener connecting the fence-wire and one of the feet of the U- shaped support to the fence-post, and a guard wire attached to the U-shaped support, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE W. TEAGUE.
